how soon after bleeding starts is MC likely to happen?

Hello
I was found to have a missed mc about 3 weeks ago now and opted for expectant management. Started bleeding very lightly this morning....can anybody tell me from their knowledge or experience how long it is likely to take now for the main part of the miscarriage to happen? I know i could bleed for a couple of weeks but wondered how long it might take to pass the baby/for the worse of the bleeding to happen? Im at home on my own at the moment and feeling very scared. Thanks for any help you can give me x

you poor thing? it took me about 3 days before it happened. it was a shock, as i was further on than i thought.

I think if at all possible you might want to think about having someone with you - as the previous poster suggested.

I think it took about 3 days for me too. I possibly prolonged things by taking to my bed and not moving around very much.

So sorry for you. Look after yourself.

Thank you. I didnt want to call my husband unnecessarily if its still likely to be a long time but i think i will call him if people think its the right thing to do. His boss is wonderful and has said he can work from home if needed but he was home a lot when we first found out and i dont want to take advantage of thier good will if nothing is likely to happen for a while. This is so hard isnt it. Thank you for replying, it can be a very lonely experience.

I am sorry that you are going through this experience right now, it can feel frightening.

i was diagnosed with a mmc 2 weeks ago and started bleeding yesterday. The whole day yesterday was like a heavy period with cramps but was awake for about 3 hours in the night with very strong pains.

Bleeding is heavier today with some small clots but doesn't seem out of control. I don't know what will happen next as it's my first time too so I also feel a little bit scared and am here on my own.

i think you have to do what feels right for you. I'm ok right now as I know DP is just at the end of the phone and I have MN for company. I am just taking it easy and waiting to see what happens next.

I'm sending you a big hug, look after yourself and post again if you need to talk.

Thank you waspylady, im sorry you are going through the same thing.

Not very much has happened, ive just had little bit of blood seen on wiping really (sorry if tmi)....is this normal? Are things likely to happen soon?

hi, just to let you know my experience. Started light spotting on a sunday, more and more came till on wed was pretty heavy, (changing a nightime super towel every hour or so) biggest clots (and probably baby but very tiny) on Thursday. Some clots may be distressingly large which I was not prepared for, i.e. you can feel them passing. Bleeding carried on for about another week but got much less. Sorry for the TMI but i kind of wish I had been a bit more prepared. Lying down only slows things, it all still has to come out so maybe do something gentle and therapeutic but I never wanted to be too far from a loo.

how are things today whostolemyname? How are you feeling?

I had a bad night with pains keeping me awake for a few hours and I think the bleeding is heavier again today. Some clots but very small so I am a bit worried about big clots but nothing so far.

I think everyones experience is slightly different so unfortunately you can't know in advance exactly how it is going to be for you. I know that is difficult but just try to look after yourself and maybe try to find something distracting to do.

Thinking of you, let me know how you are getting on.

Hope you are doing ok waspylady. My bleeding has been quite light really. I had a few tiny clots but no bigger than a 5p piece over the weekend and just a small amount of blood since. Definetly havent passed anything big enough to be the baby. I had period type pain also over the weekend but nothing much today. I dont know if this is normal or not. Emotionally i feel a wreck. Have been so tearful, partly because im still scared and partly grief.
How are you getting on?

So sorry you are both having to go through this.
I waited for 10 days after being told I had a mmc and during that time I only had one bleed during the night, but no pain etc.. I couldn't wait any longer and then opted for a medically managed mc, where they basically induce you in hospital.
Prior to this my G.P had prescribed strong painkillers and told me to stay close to home.
How far along were your pregnancies?
I am just asking because my baby was around a 12 weeks size, from the scan. It was very obvious when I passed the baby and it did need some pushing.
I dont't want to worry you more, but just to prepare you if you are a bit further on.
You can always phone the hosp and ask for advice, or a further scan to see how things are going.
I hope its all over soon for you both, and it is as gentle as possible. xxx

I'm really sorry that you are still suffering, it is a v difficult time. I think the experience for everyone is different and maybe it depends how far along you were. I think I was only about 5 or 6 weeks. If you are worried you can always go to GP or EPU and ask to a scan to see what is going on and then could maybe decide to take a more medical option if it has not happened naturally?

I think my miscarriage has completed now and i've written below exactly what happened. Sorry if it is tmi but I thought it might help you to know my experience.

After I posted on Friday things took a turn for the worse. In the afternoon I had period like pains; stabbing pains, cramping and a vice like feeling as if the whole area was gripped in a vice. This lasted about 2 hours and was v painful (at least 4 times more painful than a period) but just bearable.
And then it got worse. And I was crying out with pain and panting as couldn't breathe properly with the pain. This lasted about 30 mins before I called my DP to come home from work.....this level of pain went on for another 15 mins or so then subsided.
During this time there was heavy bleeding (one nighttime towel an hour) and some small clots about 5 pence size.
Since then the bleeding carried on but was less and with only slight pain on Sat and lighter with no pain on Sunday. Today is the first day with no bleeding.

I am now feeling so much better that is it over as I was also worried about what it might be like. And emotionally it has helped too. I have to go back to the hospital for a scan next Wed to check all is gone so I will also have that reassurance.

Avaj, thank you for you kind words. I'm really sorry that you had to go through this experience too, sounds like you had a tough time. I hope you are recovering well.

Hi, it took 3 days for me too but I was told mine failed at 5 weeks but I carried for 13 weeks. I didn't start spotting until 2 days after my 12 weeks scan. It was if after I knew, my body let go. Everyone is different but my thoughts are with you and I hope your experience is over quickly
