i have just had my 2nd miscarriage (erpc) on new years eve, i was 10wks, they said baby had stopped at 9wks. i had some bleeding at 7+3, went to a&e where i was given an internal to make sure my cervix was closed, it took 20 mins, 3 different size instruments and a lot of searching, when she finally found it, it was closed. i had a scan at 8 weeks and a heartbeat was found. 9+2 (boxing day) i had a slight bleed, went to a&e, was told to go to epu after the weekend, had a scan on the tuesday where we were told there was no heartbeat. had the erpc an the wednesday. on the following monday i had a phone call from my doctors to come and get antibiotics as i had a urine infection.....picked up from my sample on boxing day!! how could i have got an infection, we hadnt had any sex for weeks because we were scared, so could i have got it from the internal and could it have caused my miscarriage. we were so careful. i hope someone can make sense of this, im not trying to place blame, i was reluctant to have the internal and now wish i hadnt. thanks in advance for any info.

Hello, it's easy to feel like this when you've been through something like this.
A urine infection or an internal doesn't encourage a mc. Lots of women can have any type of infection during pregnancy and there are no problems.
It's so easy and natural to feel there was something like this to cause an mc but usually it's because there are chromosonal abnormalities or just plain bad luck.
Take things day by day and don't give yourself a hard time Take care

I was screened for urine infection at my booking appointment because they say there is some evidence that it can be linked to early miscarriage.

I'm not sure if internals would give you one though? I've never had one, but I got the impression they are opportunisitic things, and mostly picked up from faecal contamination? (please someone correct me if I am wrong)

So sorry BF for your loss. I had an erpc just before Christmas. I try to take the view that these things are meant to be and the wee bubba wasn't developing properly, but I totally understand your concern. Half of me wonders if the viral rash my daughter had a few weeks beforehand had anything to do with mine, or the 24 hour vomiting bug O had with it's accompanying temperature.... but I try not to dwell on these things. It just wasn't meant to be.

like i said i was so careful, if you mean wiping the wrong way there was no chance of that, thats just basic cleanliness, that wouldnt occur even not being pregnant. i just wonder because im never ill, dont spend any time at the docs, so why would i get an infection when i was pregnant. yes i do believe what will be will be but if i hadnt been callled to the docs then i would just accept it. i have docs on thurs so i will ask her what she thinks, i know im not gonna hear what i want to hear, just seems too much of a coincidence. im sorry for your loss too hobnob, lets hope for a better new year eh.

i had a miscarraige last september, i was only around 8 weeks pregnant ... i awoke one night with terrible stomach ache and i was bleeding a lot so i went to the hospital and they booked me in for a scan that morning, as i didnt have enough liquid in my bladder, i had to have an internal scan. they said that there was no evidence of the pregnancy ... the baby was already gone. i went to the doctors the next week, and they said i had a urine infection and thrush. i hadn't had a urine infection since i was a baby nd i had never had thrush before so i know how you feel ... i do believe that it was the urine infection that caused my miscarraige ... but i think that some women just get urine infections and thrush with pregnancy... and its really important to get it seen to as soon as possible because i think if i got it seen to, i might still have my baby. i hope i helped.

i had a mc on thursday . im 16 and its been the hardest thing ever. i went to A+E the sunday befor and was told i had a urine infection . they gave me tablets to cure it but i think it was too late but im not sure if it was that the made me lose my baby or something i did . i cant sleep i keep looking for answers but i cant find anything to help me . at first i thought it was the tablets that did it as they can cause heavy bleeding . its been 3 days now and there are still quite big clots coming out when i go to the toilet . is that normal ?? .
the hospital never explained it to me they just told me what happend . i wish someone could give me some answers please x .

Kelseyx - I'm so sorry for your loss.

The hospital should have talked to you in great detail, shame on them for not doing so.
Pls phone NHS Direct, 0845 4647.
YOur so young, you've got the rest of your life to have a baby, try to be positive.
If you can, go and give your mum and dad a hug, don't worry about it being 0331hrs, your mum will understand.
Thinking of you..

I had mc in nov at 5+5. Spent night in hospital as they wondered about ectopic. Wasn't but found a bad urine infection which i didn't know i had. Never had one ever before so think it maybe had something to do with it though doc said not. Do worry it could happen again if i didn't spot it before. Who knows- i guess you always look for reasons even if there aren't any x

I too have had 2 miscarriages in a row
And both times I had a really bad water infection and was put on anti biotics

So I too believe water infections can cause miscarriage

I’m now preg again and had scan yday and they told me everything seemed normal until they checked my babies heart beat

It was only beating at 56bpm When it should be at least 90 so again they aren’t hopeful I will carry to full term and guess what ? I have also been on anti biotics again for a water infection

So I believe water infections can cause miscarriage and I’m convinced of it

I am now going to have lots of tests to see why I keep getting water infections ( UTIs)
