Has anyone had more than one missed miscarriage?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to decide whether to go for an early scan or not, as I am pregnant again after a missed miscarriage in October. I'm sort of thinking I would rather not have one, as I am thinking the chances of having two missed miscarriages in a row are very slim? The nurse who dealt with me at the time said that missed miscarriages aren't like other types of miscarriage as it's more like just very bad luck and not really something to do with my capacity to carry a child. (I have a healthy DD.)

So - can I ask... has anyone ever had more than one missed miscarriage?

Hi sausage sorry about your m/c and congraulations btw. I have had two m/c, one about a year ago, and one on the 4th nov Try and not to worry yourself, i think you should go for a early scan.

Also at the same time try and not to worry about what other people have being through, as it will do your head in. Everybody is different so relax and enjoy. I have son.

Yes, I had one very missed miscarriage (baby died at 6 weeks, found at routine 13 week scan with no symptoms) and one less missed (had an early scan at 8 weeks, baby OK but a bit smaller than dates, scan a week later showed that the baby probably died that day) but might have gone longer if I hadn't had the scans. I had a 'normal' miscarriage in between those.

If you can get a scan at 8 weeks, I'd go for it

I've had 1 mmc, followed 2 years later by 'normal' mc, followed 3 years later by successful pg, followed by 'normal' mc 9 months after ds was born, followed by another (hopefully) successful pg 6 wks later.

Just because you mc whether it be missed or not, does not increase your chances of having aother.

I've had 4 miscarriages (and 3 children) and of those two have been 'missed'. Since first mc I have always had early scans and found them to be reassuring and where there have been signs that things were not progressing normally I was glad to know at an earlier stage. Hope everything works out for you this time.

I had 2 mmc in a row. First in Aug 2005 at 11 weeks and then in March 2006 at 7 weeks.

Hello Sausage, I'm not sure if you'll remember me from emmyss angels. I am so delighted for you and sending lots of baby dust your way.

I'll be ttc next month and I've thought about this a lot myself and have come to the conclusion that I would try and wait till about 8 or 9 weeks and then have a scan. I don't think I could handle any longer than that not knowing.

Hi Sausage, congratulations on your pregnancy. I have had a very similar situation to you - 1DD age 17 months and mmc 4 weeks ago now and I am PRAYING that I will get pregnant as quickly as you. I am also stressing about another MMC if I am as lucky as you for things to happen so soon...
Just to encourage you - I have a friend who had 2ds then mc then dd and she's now pregnant again with dc number 4! Looking forward to reading lots of positive posts as things progress x

Thankls for all the advice. I have sort of decided that maybe 8 or 9 weeks would be a good time for a scan, so let's see if I an wait patiently until then! Every twinge has me panicing at the minute! Silly I know.

Curlywurlee and pecanpie, Sorry to hear about both of your recent miscarriages. I have my fingers crossed for you that you both get pregnant again soon.

It's a funny time. I'm absolutely thrilled to be pregnant so soon, but I don't feel like I can really believe there's a baby there, or get too excited. That's probably a good thing I suppose.

I know how you feel sausage, I found out I was pg again 6 weeks after 3rd mc and it was really hard to come to terms with being pregnant but at the same time trying not to get too excited about it just in case.
I went for an early scan although I had to battle for it, and still then it took a while.
Good luck with everything and will keep eyes open for progress reports.

sausage - I had a mmc in June and am now 13 weeks pregnant. I had a scan at 8 weeks and another at 12 weeks! (I had to pay for both). This pregnancy has been really hard tbh - only just starting to 'enjoy' it now. The scans really helped me to relax (although obviously at the time they were very emotional - brought back bad memories)

I have had 1 MMC and one 'normal' MC,
I had DS1 in 97, then a MMC in 99, Dd1 in 2000, DD2 in 2001, MC in 2007, and Ds2 in 2007.

I was told that it was just bad luck that I had 2 MC.

I'd go for a 9 week scan if I had the choice, since my mmc at 10+4 (baby measured 8) in July I've read a lot on here, and it seems that in a lot of cases the baby is lost at about 8 weeks, which I can see maybe why as apparently 8 weeks is when the major organs should be complete, so any problems down to that and there's the point at which it becomes a problem. Totally unscientific but sort of logical.

I'm 10 weeks now (this is a tough week....) and had a scan at 7 weeks, which TBH I felt was pointless, didn't prove to me it would be OK and was very upsetting as brought back memories of the last one. Hopefully 12 weeks will be better....

I have had three: 18 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 1/2 weeks with twins...
I am not sure that a scan at any stage would make me feel better should I ever decide to attempt another pregnancy.

There was nothing that would have showed on earlier scans to suggest that things would end badly; my losses were all about the right size for dates and no obvious abnormalities.

You need to do what will make you feel better. I did feel immense relief at seeing DD2 at a 12 week scan despite knowing that my pregnancy might end in another missed-miscarriage.

I don't think that I truly believed that I was actually having a baby until moments after she was born iykwim.
