Watery gush of blood and clear mucus with a little menstrual type bleeding?

Hello, firstly I am sorry to join you on here. I am waiting for a scan at the Early Preg Centre on Monday.

Had a missed m/c 7.5 weeks ago. Doc said it was fine to carry on trying. Have had no period so tested last Thurs and got a +ve preg test...

..however a couple of hours later I had a gush of watery blood that soaked through my underwear - took less than a second to happen. Then nothing until the evening when I had a little menstrual type bleeding and some clear sticky mucus? Then yesteday very light brown blood, just the occasional staining and when I wipe. Today it seems to have cleared up.

I can't be more than 5 weeks as didn't start trying for a couple of weeks.

Have scoured the threads and can't find anything on this so if anyone has had this experience and how things panned out - m/c or successful preg I would be so grateful to hear from you.

sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

Did you have a negetive pregnancy test after the m/c, or did blood tests show that the hormones had left your system?

Sometimes pregnancy hormones can stay in your system for several weeks after a m/c.

If you are pregnant, it's possible that you have had an implantation bleed - this is relatively common.

I hope the scan gives you good news.

Hi Squidgett, welcome and I'm really sorry about your miscarriage. I had one a few years ago and then got pregnant soon after, like you. I wish I could offer you advice, I simply don't know what your symptoms mean. I would recommend that you call NHS direct or go to your A&E dept today, just to put your mind at rest.

Best of luck.

Hi Mrs ThierryHenry, thanks for your post. I am waiting for the scan on Monday, it is hell but this forum is a lifeline to help me through it. x

Hi Belgo, I took a preg test two weeks ago, a week after my period was due and it was -ve, sorry I forgot to mention this. I didn't even think that this might be implantation bleeding. I will look in to this - thank you for the new line of inquiry x

Yes it could be an implantation bleed.

Do you have any pain or any other symptoms?

MrsThierryHenry · 22/11/2008 11:12

Hi Squidgett, yes I know you're going to the hospital on Monday, but having had the symptoms you've had it's not unreasonable for you to go early and ask to be examined today. They're usually very kind in those units, and they may give you advice on resting, etc.

All the very best! xxx

belgo · 22/11/2008 11:18

Agree with Mrs TH, in particular if you do have any pain/temperature, then it's important to get checked out today.

It doesn't do any harm to phone up your EPU and ask for advice.

squidgett · 22/11/2008 11:39

Hi both, I haven't had any pain. Not sure about the temp, have been pretty hot at night. What would high temp mean? When I went to the doctors on Thurs the Doc phoned the EPU with me in the room and they asked whether I was soaking pads, in pain etc, which I am not, so they scheduled the scan for Monday. I don't feel like enough of an 'emergency' to just turn up, esp as I am not bleeding now.

Waiting for the scan which diagnosed the last m/c was complete turmoil, this time I am feeling crappy, but nowhere near as bad as before - whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger as they say.

Sorry to post again, just wanted to let you know I am reading up on implantation bleeding now - in my heart of hearts I really felt this might be m/c so it didn't even occur to me that it might be implantation, thank you for the hope and encouragement x

However, been to 3 different sites all saying different things, implantation occurs after 5-7 days, 14-16 days and 5/6 weeks?! Grrr, it's maddening!

Implantation begins at about 10 days after conception, but the embryo then carries on implanting for a while afterwards.

Even if this is a m/c, please don't give up hope. I concieved succesfully after two m/cs last year, and now have a new son.

A high temperature could be a sign of infection.

Good luck.

squidgett · 22/11/2008 13:19

Thanks belgo, if this is a m/c I am thinking of giving my body a rest before i try again, and for my own sanity but i will not give up hope, thank you x

Hello, just updating to let you ladies know that I went for the scan today and there is a sac with baby and heartbeat! I was stunned as I had cramps bled on Saturday.

There is blood in the womb though - the sonographer said it was implantation bleeding so belgo you were both right ) She also said that I may bleed more and with more bleeding there is the risk that the pregnancy may come away and end in miscarriage - just have to wait and see.

It's not the result I was expecting at all - and although there is still lots to worry about I can't help feeling where there is life there is hope

Thank you both for your support on Saturday x

Just seen this - that's very hopeful - I do hope everything continues to go well

MrsThierryHenry · 26/11/2008 10:02

HURRAH!!!

So glad things are okay for now, and I'll be thinking of you in the coming weeks.

It's very, very common to miscarry - I know loads of women who have done so several times and still gone on to full-term pregnancies. The hardest thing is that (for obvious reasons) people don't tend to talk about their own experience of miscarriage, so when it happens to you, you feel rather isolated.

I really hope that all goes well for you with this and future pregnancies.

Lemontart · 26/11/2008 10:16

oh wonderful news!! Just found this thread.

I had implantation bleeding and then on/off bleeding. At the early clinic I was given the same advice about blood in the area and could stlll miscarry. There is hope: my little heartbeat and sac is not 7 yrs old and strong and healthy. I also bled with DD2.

You are spot on when you said that while there is always that worry things might go wrong, there is also a lot to hope for. I wish you well and hope that these early weeks fly by quickly and things settle down so you can truly enjoy your pregnancy.

Hello ladies, thanks for your support x I have been lurking on here but didn't see these messages til today for some reason.

So I had brown spotting last week which I wasn't too worried about having I've read so many times that it's 'old blood'.... But I started bleeding bright red blood this morning so ended up back at the EPU for another scan.

The good news is there is still a baby/fetus and a heartbeat (8 wks exactly today) and the blood clot that was put down to implantation has cleared up, which the sonographer said 'probably' explained the brown blood. So now I am just hoping that this red bleeding will calm down.

Lemontart how are you? Has your implantation bleeding subsided? I would like to hear how you are doing, and hope that everything is going well for you x

Hi Squidgett,

I found your thread yesterday, through the search thing on here, as yesterday I experienced something very similar to you. Then it's popped up live again today! Weird!

At 5pm yesterday I had to rush to the toilet, as had experienced just what you described above - a watery gush of blood. I then had on / off spotting on a pad (not much at all) until 8pm. Then nothing at all since (last night or today.)

I have only recently had a missed miscarriage myself so am very worried. I saw the Dr today, and am booked in for a scan next Tues (the earliest they'll do it... I'll be 6 plus 2).

Anyway - I guess I'm just posting as your thread has given me a little tiny bit of hope that it might be ok, fingers crossed. I hope your most recent bleeding subsides quickly, and things go okay for you from here on. Keep us updated.

  • also - could my bleeding possibly be implantation bleeding too then? I was 5 weeks 2 days yesterday. I thought it was too late for that?
