Medical management after a miscarriage - please tell me all about it!!

Chances are I will be undergoing medical management this weekend.
I had a scan last week which showed the pregnancy sac was still there. I have had bleeding but not enough IMO to expel (sorry - harsh word) it completely.
SO please can someone tell me about it? What happens, how long does it take and does it usually work?
How long afterwards is it usual to have a period and when can you start TTC? Do you have to wait for one period or more or can you start TTC straightaway after medical management?
Any advice/info would be gratefully received!!

Some people have been told to wait 3 mths after medical management but not sure of the reasons

I saw on another thread that you had been advised to avoid a 3rd ERPC by a nurse
I'd advise you to ask for a consultant's opinion

it's all so confusing with so many different medical opinions. As if it wasn't traumatic enough!!

Shit, have just the other thread and am so worried I don't 'pass' everything as then I will have to have the ERPC anyway. And I was warned against having a third one.
It's all so bloody awful and lengthy!! I wish I could have a natural m/c. This is my thirs and none of them have been.

Can I ask why you were advised not to have a 3rd ERPC?

The nurse/midwife in the EPAU said it could lead to scarring of the womb which could then make it difficult for an egg/s to implant. Before I heard that I had opted for an ERPC. This medical management sounds so tedious, lengthy and might not even work!!
Does anyone know anyone who has had three or more ERPCs? This might be another thread!!

I have had 3 ERPCs but then we are not planning on having more children. The doc did not mention anything about it though, and I would have thought he would.

I was treated in Germany/Switzerland and here the docs do not offer medical management after a missed m/c, they only advise a ERPC so I would imagine it is not so unusual.

Maybe you could speak to your consultant about it?

I am certainly glad that I was able to have the ERPC, it is certainly not pleasant but I found it easier to put it behind me, iykwim.

Hope someone else comes along with more info.

I haven't had medical management, only ERPCs. That 'advice' relates to old fashioned D&Cs rather than ERPC's which are much gentler.

Anyway, the egg implants into the layer that is shed every month anyway, so scarring wouldn't affect that process.

Just to add, the nurse told me the risks of getting Ashermann's syndrome go up with 3 or more ERPCs. There is a webite about the syndrome which confirms her statement.

My hospital only offers ERPC
Sometimes they don't get everything out with one ERPC so you could have 2 for one mc
While I can appreciate wanting to avoid surgery I would never go the natural route again myself as I lost so much blood

HI, i went through medical management yesterday after my 2nd missed miscarriage, I expected much worse than I went through. At 11.20 I was given my first 4 tablets they started to work within approx 2hrs, I had cramping pains which were like a very bad period pain, I also had heavy bleeding but no tissue passed until after my second dose of tablets around 4pm, at 5.30 I had a lot of tissue being passed and that was very painful and then it was over, it was extremely emotional as you can expect but with my partners support and with the care and help of the nurses on hand it made the experience much easier to deal with. With my 1st MMC I opted for the ERPC but I had a terrible hospital (different to the 2nd MMC)experience so this is what put me off opting for this again and I am pleased I didnt. With the 1st not only did i have horrendous bleeding and pains for 4 weeks after dut to an undetected infection, I also received terrible treatment from the hospital I went to, there was blood on the floor in my room, the nurses were uncaring and the doctors tried to cancel my OP after 9hrs of waiting in a cold room. Im am biased but definitely prefered the erpc.
