Hoping to find someone on here with similar experiences as find nothing online!
Two days ago I went down the surgical management route for miscarriage - general anaesthetic. I spent ages reading about it and researching. Everything online said they only use plastic suction and blunt plastic instruments these days, so risk of scarring is minimal. I also checked this three times with the nurses before signing the consent forms. I have no children and this is my first miscarriage so I was very concerned about retaining fertility as much as possible.
After the surgery I requested to speak to the surgeon (due to an emergency they never came around pre-op) to ask how it went. The surgeon spoke through how they used plastic suction, and then a metal curette at the end to check the uterus. This has sent my anxiety spiralling as I had specially asked multiple times if it was only blunt plastic instruments used. I was told it was NHS protocol to do this, but cannot find any reliable evidence online about this. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
