im sorry I didn’t know why to put the title under as I couldn’t find abortion as an option.

Please no hate at all.

I had an abortion on the 9th July, took the tablets, after taking the 4 Misoprostol i started bleeding and passed a biggish clot, “lemon size” and some smaller ones, obviously a lot of bleeding and very light cramping, and bled for about a week after, I did the clinic pregnancy test this morning, and it’s still showing positive, I’m worrying now it’s not worked???
and before anyone starts saying why wasn’t I save having sex I was, I was on the Depo injection!! Which I thought I was safe having unprotected sex, and obviously I got pregnant. But as I said I’m worried as why the test is still showing positive… and advice please 🙏

Absolutely no hate. This is your body and your choice, I'm sorry you are going through it. There are many things it could be so you do need to go to a gp or other healthcare provider who can do a blood test or ultrasound to find out what's going on and support you with next steps. Is that possible for you?

That sounds really stressful. Am I right in thinking it’s been less than 3 weeks since you had the abortion? I can only speak from having miscarriages, but one was medically managed presumably with the same medication as an abortion. I was told by the hospital to take a pregnancy test exactly 3 weeks after the miscarriage - and not to do it in the morning and to drink lots of water beforehand. I followed those instructions and took the test they gave me and it was negative. But I was testing positive with the tests I had, even the day before (it was pretty light at that point though). So for me the tests took a while to go negative. It doesn’t necessarily mean the pregnancy’s continuing, it just takes a while for the pregnancy hormone (HCG) to leave your body.

What you describe of the process sounds like what I experienced in my miscarriage that was medically managed, so it sounds to me like the pregnancy ended. However it’s always best to be sure, so follow up with your clinic to make sure everything’s passed and you’re all okay :)

Yes it is possible, and I will be calling my DR tomorrow, I just wanted to know if anyone had the same experience as me before calling them. Thank you x

Yes 19 days, and yes it’s very stressful, I keep testing because I’m so anxious, maybe I’m just testing too early? I don’t know, but I’m scared how pregnancy is still happening. X

I had a medically managed miscarriage on the 5th (same method as you, no judgement - your body your choice) and I am still testing positive too. Is it becoming lighter over time? I think my hcg is just taking a long time to drop to zero, I've been advised to wait till 4 weeks and test again and if still positive go in for an ultrasound to check all tissue has gone. Hey, thanks for understanding, the test seems lighter in the morning but then when I check just before bed it’s pretty dark. I did phone the clinic back up and she said everything I told them sounds like I have passed the pregnancy, and my maybe my HCG levels are still going strong, they’ve said they will send out one there pregnancy tests and for me to do that again in 1 weeks time and report back to them asap incase I need to get scanned. X

I’ve just done this one now, 8:45am, first morning wee. Still pretty strong if you ask me 😞

That is a lot stronger than mine, I understand why you are worried. Are you seeing it get lighter every 48 hours? Early Pregnancy Unit told me as long as its getting lighter that is the main thing. If it isn't I would be tempted to ring your EPU again and insist on a scan

yeah it’s still very positive isn’t it 😞 I’m really scared, but when I called the clinic for advice, she had a nurse call me back, and she said because I passed clots, bleeding for more then 4 days, and NO pregnancy symptoms she said it seems like my hcg levels are very high still, before I took the pills go end the pregnancy I was feeling nauseous in the mornings when waking up, but about 48 hours of the abortion the nausea had gone. But I don’t know I don’t know if I’m panicking because I’m testing so often, 2 times a day, but I can’t stop myself! X

And I wouldn’t say lighter no, they all look like this photo I’ve taken there. X

Ah that is tough. Try to just compare tests that are 2 days apart because doing it every day/multiple times a day makes it hard to see the difference and you'll panic. I think if there is residual tissue causing the high hcg they scan again to locate and may offer you a D&C. Not particularly nice I know but fingers crossed you have passed everything and your levels are just taking a while to drop to zero (especially if they were really high to start with, that would explain the nausea)

It took about 5 weeks to get a negative after my MMC, hopefully it’s just taking time for your body to move the HCG out of your system. 💐

I’ll test again on Saturday and see if there is a difference 😞 I’m just so bloody anxious x

Did you go back to get scanned or did you just wait and tested till you got a negative? X

I just waited, could see the tests slowly getting lighter, I was surprised how long it took!!

Now I’m panicking like crazy! I just did these tests. My last 2 in the house, till I get more ok Sunday… 😭 I’m convinced I’m still pregnant 😭😭
