Are later periods often delayed after miscarriage or pregnancy loss?

Hi all

I want to ask for other people's experiences. For context I am 38, nearly 39 and have a nearly 4yo. I discovered I was pregnant with a blighter ovum at roughly 7 weeks in May. The sack carried in growing and no sign of it going away naturally so I opted for surgical management.

My first period after arrived on day 35. Im usually reasonably regular (every 26/ 27 days) since going on metformin a couple of years back for PCOS.

I am still taking metformin.

I was due on today but no sign of it. Pregnancy tests are negative. In my last pregnancy even sensitive tests didnt pick it up until I was 7 days late and I presume thats because the pregnancy was no viable. I am absolutely terrified that the same is happening again. It is awful.

Is it really common for second, third etc periods to be late after a miscarriage?

So sorry for your loss OP. Your cycle will still be trying to regulate again and so you might find that periods are irregular for the next few months.

Yes, it can go on a long time for some people. For others, it doesn't change. If you are concerned about any symptoms though, do book an appointment.

Thanks so much to both of you for your replies. How brutal to have late periods after a loss and not be pregnant. 😟 at least I know this is normal. I guess ill just have a tense week waiting . If tests are still negative next week theb I'll know its not a repeat of last time.
