Hi, I can't help but feel riddled with guilt. I returned to work in Autumn 2025 after maternity leave. Christmas 2025, my mum unexpectedly passed away. I took 3 months off work as post partum I had really struggled with my mental health so was already exhausted from that, going back after maternity and then the loss of my mum. In that time off I also had counselling where it was confirmed I have OCD. I managed to go back to work for 4 weeks in Spring where I then had a miscarriage towards end of my first trimester. Hospital kept me in due to significant blood loss. Miscarriage itself lasted about 6 weeks due to retained product of conception, I was signed off during this period. I felt so exhausted from my year that I asked my GP for another sick note and they signed me off for 3 more weeks. This means in ~7 months I have had a total of 5 months off with sickness. I'm in the NHS so I do get 6 months full pay, I had returned after 3 months after loss of my mum so it's not like I was playing the system as GP would have easily signed me off longer, but now with this extra sickness I feel consumed with guilt and worry that my colleagues think I'm abusing the system. My husband keeps reminding me that what I have gone through is true trauma in a short space of time but I can't help but feel I'm letting my colleagues down. Does my sick leave seem excessive?
