Third MMC this year, all tests normal – what next?

Hi all,

I’ve just had my third missed miscarriage in the last year (all around 5–7 weeks). Had a D&C yesterday. This is my fourth pregnancy overall – I do have one child, and that pregnancy was completely normal and low risk.

I conceive easily (usually within a few cycles) but the pregnancies just stop developing early each time.

I’ve had recurrent miscarriage bloods (APS, thyroid etc) and everything has come back normal. Only thing flagged was low vitamin D which I’m now taking. This time they’ve sent the tissue for genetic testing.

I also used progesterone (Cyclogest) this time from a positive test, but sadly the same thing has happened.

I feel a bit stuck being told everything is “normal” when clearly something isn’t right.

Has anyone had a similar pattern and gone on to a successful pregnancy?
Did you get any answers or was it just bad luck?
And is there anything else I should be pushing for (karyotyping, sperm testing, IVF etc)?

Also any tips for coping in the immediate aftermath would be appreciated.

Thank you ❤️

I'm so sorry for your losses.

After my third MMC I had karotyping. They offered it to me once the genetic testing of the pregnancy tissue came back as trisomy 15. The karotyping showed I have 2 chromosome translocations (different issue to what caused my third MMC - the first 2 weren't tested). I then had a 4th MMC, again a random genetic issues.

I then had a totally unconnected loss at 22 weeks, and we've been doing IVF with PGT-SR and PGT-A to try to get a euploid embryo. The first round didn't give us any (2 had my translocation, 3 randomly aneuploid). Second round we've got less embryos to send off, but not been biopsied yet so unsure of results. Because of my translocations we get 3 IVF rounds on the NHS.

I know my story isn't a positive outcome, but more wanted to share the karotyping part of it in case you do get something come back from genetic testing.

In terms of coping in the immediate aftermath - there's no one way or an easy way. You need to do what feels best for you in the moment. I would recommend allowing yourself to feel the feelings and process them, and not suppress them or rush yourself to feel better. Sending hugs your way xx

Have you had immune testing- nk cells? Have you your microbiome checked to make sure no chronic endometritis?

hi OP, I have literally the same story as you. First pregnancy completely fine and a healthy 3 year old. 3 MMCs followed within 18 months. Opted for d&c for the last two. Last two pregnancies I had aspirin and cyclogest and the most recent one I had clexane also but it made no difference.

in between 2 and 3 I had a lot of blood tests done - nothing found. Partner has had dna fragmentation done and all ok. Waiting on results of pregnancy tissue testing to see what it says. I want to try NK cells and microbiome etc or chronic infection testing to see if it highlights anything.

im 40, finally referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic but the wait is 1 year 🙄 and 3 months to even get the tissue testing back. I’ve gone down the private route as I have zero faith in the NHS following this experience and I have a borderline phobia of pregnancy to be honest. Sending luck your way 🙏🏻

Was your first a c section? They can leave what's called a "niche" behind, an internal area that hasn't healed properly that holds onto toxic fluid which can impact future pregnancies. Just wondering as you had a straight forward first pregnancy

I had two MMCs in between my two girls for what it's worth (12 and 10 weeks) and then the next pregnancy was fine so could also just be horrendous luck xx

Yes I had 6 mmc in total and 2 dc. Very quick to conceive. Make sure next pregnancy you’re on max dose of cyclogest (it was upped for me after 3) an mini aspirin IF indicated.

vit d is crucial and will take a while to get up to right level. Again make sure you’re taking correct dose and good quality supplement. I’d be inclined to wait until blood test shows you’re in range before TTc again.

good quality omega 3 supplement was the only other thing my private recurrent mjscasaige specialist added to the mix.

good luck 🤞🏼
