Delayed ovulation after MMC and 2 x surgical management

Looking for some reassurance or any similar experiences out there. I had a missed miscarriage recently, and opted for surgical management which happened at the end of August. Test was still positive a few weeks later and they scanned and found retained products so had to have a second surgery with hysteroscopy guidance at the end of September. Bleeding after that lasted a few days then I very quickly got my period and marked cd 1.

I've been tracking bbt ever since the first surgery and between that and the second surgery there was no ovulation detected (presumably the retained products and HCG preventing it). But I'm now on cd 20 of my cycle and still no ovulation. I'm starting to get worried because cycles pre-miscarriage were pretty regular (27 days) and always ovulated cd 15-17 or thereabouts. Has anyone else experienced cycles changing after surgical management? Delay to ovulation/no ovulation? At one of the scans they also told me I had polycystic ovaries but I don't think it's PCOS so not sure if that's a problem or not.

So sorry for what you have been through 💐

I have been told that cycles following a miscarriage can be irregular for up to 6 months (just what we need)

If things aren’t back to normal after this time the guidance is to speak to GP

hope things smooth out for you soon xxxx

Thank you for replying 🙏🏻 that's in a way reassuring but so so depressing. This little one took a year of TTC and we're not getting any younger 😔 I had read anecdotally that people seem to be more fertile in the few months after miscarriages but that doesn't seem to be happening for me!

@am316 😣 it’s the absolute pits. I was oblivious to how long the miscarriage process could be
I’m finally into my next cycle after weeks of bleeding but who knows what this has in store for me 🙄

am316 · 23/10/2025 09:27

@Utardelisso awful isn't it! I'm sorry for your loss as well and hoping very much we can both get back to some kind of normality soon

I’ve had multiple miscarriages & each time my cycle gets messed up. It does then get back to a normality, but I am definitely not one who is fertile in the couple of months following MC. Time moves at a snails pace while you are waiting, but hopefully it won’t be long, and your body is just trying to reset itself

am316 · 24/10/2025 06:28

@Figtree11sorry for your losses 💔 time is absolutely moving so slowly! I'm pretty sure this is just an anovulatory cycles at this point...

I’m with you! We had a missed miscarriage and MVA at the start of September. I’ve had a period and am now on day 16 of my cycle and haven’t ovulated yet, despite normally seeing my peak on day 15 regular as clockwork. My LH hasn’t even started to rise (I use a Mira monitor). We want to have one more go (I’m old so it’s very unlikely) before we give up and I’m impatient as even the consultant who did the MVA said I’d be super fertile after miscarriage and I can feel this slipping away!

RT1620 · 24/10/2025 20:33

I had a Mmc in may and then had surgery to remove a few days later. I had my first light period 12 days after surgery. Even my mw said that seems early. I then ovulated 14 days later and I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant and all is looking good.

Hang in there and sorry for your loss x

am316 · 25/10/2025 09:25

@RT1620congratulations! That's amazing your cycles resumed so soon afterwards. @Fallulahthat sounds awful I'm so sorry 😔 sounds like we've had very similar timings and at a similar stage. Fingers crossed you start to see some ovulation signs soon 🤞🏻 I've had a temp rise this morning...but very weirdly FF has now put my ovulation as over a week ago on cd 14! I'll attach the chart. Super confusing because I would have thought more likely to be yesterday. I'm in such a muddle with it all. I've never been very good at identifying other body signs like mucus/cramps etc. Before the miscarriage my literal phase temps used to be more like 36.8-36.9

I too have suddenly got a peak today! My LH was 3 yesterday and is 15 today. Not as high as a normal peak but it’s something. Unfortunately too late as I think the reason we got pregnant after ages was that I worked out we needed to have sex the day before the peak. At least something seems to be happening. Hopefully things will start to settle down for both of us.

Utardelis · 25/10/2025 11:21

Can I ask how long everyones first periods were after their MC? Im on day 9 and still bleeding

Fallulah · 25/10/2025 21:27

Mine is normally about 4 days and the first one after the miscarriage was about 6 with some very light spotting hanging round for a couple of days on and off after that.

am316 · 26/10/2025 12:46

Mine was longer than normal, about 9 days too when it's normally 5. It was also hard to separate what was post-surgery bleeding and what was period because one morphed into the other after my second surgery

Hi OP, no advice just solidarity. Had an ectopic pregnancy which I had surgery for start of July, and my cycles since have been totally irregular 😔 previously they were literally bang on 27 days. I’m hoping that they’ll settle down with time. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Editing to say, I really wish you all the best 💐

am316 · 28/10/2025 08:13

@feelingalittlehorsethank you and sorry for your loss ❤️ I hope we both get regular cycles again soon! I'm really frustrated with the "you're more fertile after miscarriage" idea because I feel like it sets you up to be expectant and hopeful which makes it so much more crushing when things become the exact opposite!

Just returning to say my second period after miscarriage has just finished and it was disgusting! I had a couple of days of on off spotting, which I’ve never had before, and then finally it arrived on about day 30 and was so heavy there was one day I had to get changed at work. 🤢 Honestly if this is what periods are going to be like from now on I’m not happy!

am316 · 17/11/2025 13:10

@Fallulahaww sorry that sounds awful! My first was odd, almost watery blood not like it normally is at all. The fertility friend app didn't identify any ovulation last month so I think I had an anovulatory cycle 😞 this month I've started using the clearblue fertility monitor as well and am on cd 13 still giving low readings. So frustrating I'm worried this is going to be another month of no ovulation. When I've used it before it's always gone high by now

feelingalittlehorse · 17/11/2025 18:21

I can’t comment on the fertility side as we’ve held off now, mainly due to my mental health after the loss. Will try again after Christmas. Again, just had a very short cycle and a very light period so mine haven’t totally normalised still 😩
I feel like sex education at school drummed into me that if I even looked vaguely at a penis from any direction I’d immediately have a baby- it turns out, this is not the case!!!!!

Wish you all the very best ❤️ it’s totally shit.

Tinytotdriver · 21/11/2025 23:10

I’m sorry for your loss 💔

It can definitely take a while! I had my MVA for my second MMC in June and it took until October to have a regular cycle with a regular length and to ovulate at a normal point. Fortunately that did the trick and I’m currently pregnant.

I know it’s absolutely horrible waiting around when you want to get on with TTC. Hopefully your cycle will return back to normal soon ❤️
