Having a miscarriage and waiting for a scan in the morning

Just that really. I suppose I’m posting to see if anyone who’s been in the same situation (and I know there are so many) could give me a heads up about what to expect next. As of Tuesday I was about 7.5 weeks, but started bleeding. Lightly at first but by the end of the day it was just like a period, and is still the same now. No clots and some mild cramping, but the bleeding has been constant (no gushes) so I’ve lost hope of even a SCH bleed. I have a scan in the morning and even though I’ve accepted what’s happening, I’m so horrified at the idea of hearing the words from the ultrasound tech.

For anyone who’s miscarried at this stage, can I expect the bleeding and cramping to get much more intense? How long did it last, did you have to have further intervention and how was that experience?

Thank you to anyone who has read this and anyone who can write back. I appreciate it ❤️

So sorry you’re going through this. I had three early ish miscarriages and they were very similar to how you describe. Not particularly painful, just like a regular period for me. I had no clots and no intense cramps either. If it’s any consolation at all, and I’m sure you won’t be thinking about this now, but after each one I ttc straight away and got pregnant immediately after and the third time all was fine.

Thank you so much for this. I’m glad to hear that you experience is similar actually because all the talk of intense pain and huge amounts of blood has made me worried that this is an incomplete miscarriage or something. That’s wonderful news that your following ttc journey was so successful ❤️❤️

I had 2early miscarriages between my two kids. I didn’t experience pain any worse than a bad period. There was quite a lot of blood though, which scared me initially but was probably equivalent to a heavy period.

if indeed you are having a miscarriage it’s still fairly early, and the human body is good at doing its thing so hopefully no intervention needed.

sending you hugs.

Really sorry to hear this. I had a miscarriage between children at 8 weeks. It was like a heavy period and didn’t really have cramps. The worst bit was the fanny wand for the ultrasound. It was really sad but it wasn’t meant to be, the Dr told me it was like the motherboard of a computer and all the bits needed to connect to make a healthy baby which helped me reconcile. I was also amazed at the time how many women have miscarriages. I too got pregnant within 6 months and have a 19 and 16 year old. Wishing you the best, it does pass x

Thank you for sharing this. I’m glad to know I’m not necessarily awaiting the pain level to ramp up dramatically. ❤️

Thank you ❤️ yes this is a good point, I wanted to ask if I could expect the scan to be abdominal or transvaginal, so thank you for the heads up.

It might not be bad news. I had early bleeding but no miscarriages.

My sister had 2 very early miscarriages at about 7 or 8 weeks. She says they were no worse than her periods.

@blue21pyjamas sending hugs x i had a few miscarriages very early on. Its a horrible experience to go through. Sending 💐🙏💞

blue21pyjamas · 09/10/2025 15:18

@Sagaciouslywas your bleeding continuous, if you don’t mind sharing? That’s what makes me feel a bit hopeless, mine hasn’t stopped or lessened at all, it’s just been a constant flow. Glad it worked out for you ☺️

With number one it was one afternoon of bright red blood (at 16 weeks). With number 2 it really was like a period over a few days (at only 6 weeks so I kept assuming it was that and sticking in a tampon).

That’s really interesting, I guess there’s a chance! My gut instinct is to go into the scan expecting the worst but maybe I’ll get a happy surprise.

How did you get on OP 😘

blue21pyjamas · 11/10/2025 08:27

@Utardelissadly it was exactly as expected. They told me there was no evidence of a pregnancy at all, but when they had me take a test and it was positive they did a blood test and confirmed that as my progesterone and hcg were low, it was definitely a miscarriage. I’m devastated but at least it’s all passed naturally and I don’t have to go through any further management.

thank you for checking in and thank you to everyone who shared their experiences, it really helped me to prepare ❤️
