I took misoprostol for my missed miscarriage 5 days ago. My pregnancy test is still showing a strong positive

Is this normal? The line is still as dark as ever.
I have lost most of my pregnancy symptoms, like gagging when brushing teeth, food aversions, tiredness etc.
How long will it take for me to have a negative pregnancy test?!

Did you find out the reason why? I'm worried I have retained tissue :(

Thank you x

When I had my MC, i was told it was normal to test positive for a few weeks after. I got a negative 2 weeks after a scan showing an empty womb and lining returning to normal.

When I had missed miscarriage both times I was testing strong positive for 2 weeks, it’s totally normal and the reason why they tell you to retest 3 weeks later as within that range is completely normal x

Midwife here. The shop-bought pregnancy tests are so sensitive, they can show up positive for up to six weeks after a miscarriage. Sorry it must be upsetting but give yourself a few weeks: hopefully your period will return and test will show up negative soon. Hope you are ok and receiving support.

Im sorry you are going through this. I had a D&C with both my MMC's. I tested positive for 5 weeks after. Although, they were twin pregnancies so that could have impacted the hormone levels.

I'm sorry you're going through this! When I had my MMC they said to not do any pregnancy tests until 3 weeks after taking the medication.

The first pregnancy test I did was very faint, second was positive and the next one negative. I didn't have any retained tissue when I went for a check up scan. Sometimes it can take a while to go negative. Xx

Sorry you’re going through this. It’s heartbreaking seeing those lines isn’t it.

I found out on Thursday we have had another missed miscarriage. 4th in a row 😔 They gave me two tests and told me to do them in 3 weeks. Last year I got a 3+ digital on the morning of a scan where there was no heartbeat. Those tests can be cruel. Spend so long wishing to see the lines and then after a loss seeing a line is just heartbreaking.

hope you’re as ok as you can be x

How far along were you? I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and my HCG was monitored as the pregnancy was never observed. 5 days after my miscarriage my HCG was still in the 1000s so would have given a really strong positive even though it was dropping as expected. HCG roughly halves every 48h, with my second miscarriage I got a clear positive at 2 weeks post loss and a negative test a week later. It took 3 weeks with the first loss for my HCG to drop to a level that would give a negative test. At 2 weeks post loss it was about 100 so would have given a positive test.
