Can I use a tampon after spontaneous miscarriage at 5 weeks

Hi all,

I'm currently having a miscarriage at around five weeks. I don't mean this to come across as flippant, I'm absolutely gutted but this is my fifth miscarriage so it wasn't a surprise and thankfully I hadn't had long to get excited this time.

Anyway, all of my miscarriages before now have been Missed miscarriages and required medical intervention. This is my first spontaneous miscarriage. I'm on day two of bleeding but I go on holiday tomorrow. I was hoping to go swimming and to the beach but will I not be able to wear tampons or can I wear them later in the week? Ugh! Life sucks. If anyone else has had multiple miscarriages then sending love.

Thanks so much for any replies,

Following a miscarriage, it's generally recommended to use sanitary towels instead of tampons to reduce the risk of infection. This advice applies whether the miscarriage is managed medically or surgically.

So sorry for your losses op Flowers

To be honest I probably would, on the basis that such an early miscarriage shouldn’t be so different to having a period. I’d just make sure to remove it quite promptly after swimming.

Sorry this is happening OP.

I had one once where it was ridiculously heavy for quite a few weeks. But of course you can use tampons, towels, Amy sanitary products you wish. It may be heavier than a normal period though. I'm sorry for your losses. Enjoy your holiday x

Thanks so much @Okayornot It feels just like a heavy period really. I think I’ll do exactly that. Use pads but tampons so I can still go in water.xx

Thanks for your reply @DiscoBob. It doesn’t feel super heavy so far but I’m nervous that will change when I’m away, we’ll see I suppose. Sorry for your loss too. It’s a rubbish club to be in xx

Thank you. I think it is just about how heavy it might be so just bring extra supplies. And some pain relief just in case if you'll be away from home. I wish you a lovely holiday x
