I think I have had a chemical pregnancy - when can I try again?

Essentially, as above.

DTD over ovulation May ‘25 - several faint positive tests following this - started spotting June 2nd - then a little heavier, no clots or bleeding. Lighter than period flow. Faint positive 7th June on day original period was due.

Retested tonight (1 week after period was due) and stark negative. I am still quite crampy, foul taste in mouth etc.

Assuming its been a chemical as I just cannot believe my test would be that negative at five weeks if pregnancy. Not sure whats happened to my usual period though?

On my app if I chart that the beginning of my period - I would be fertile this week should I just start BD-ing now in a hope to catch another ovulation?

I had a missed miscarriage last year and I was told to wait one cycle before we tried again after a D&C.

5 weeks is still early so your nighttime pee may not have enough HCG to show as positive. This is why the recommend testing 1st thing in the morning. Is the taste in your mouth like a bitter metallic taste as I had that throughout my 1st trimester with DS.

Also I can recommend the clear blue ovulation tests. They are a tad expensive but took the guessing out and we got pregnant 1st try after D&C.

Yes its a bitter metallic taste! its horrendous, my taste was the first symptom since end of May and not stopped

I was told on the conception forum that my faint positiive on a strip test yesterday was false as it should be much darker by this stage in pregnancy - so gave up and tested with the clearblue today as suggested so just assumed it was over. Surely one week late of my usual period there would be a line on clear blue?

This is my faint positive from yesterday

Hi OP. As PP said, I was also told to wait one cycle after a D&C for an MMC. It's only for dating the pregnancy though. It's not for any other scientific reason.

I'm not really sure what's going on for you this cycle. Could you get a CB weeks digital? That would be clear and precise and since your period is a week late it would be definite.

Neither do I - I have one in the cupboard I could take tomorrow morning
I have had multiple faint positives this month FRER clear blue, the little strips -
faint period as above and now ongoing cramps, lower back pain and this TASTE

it sounds awful but in many ways I would have hoped to bleed by now to close the case, although that would be classed as a miscarriage / chemical pregnancy it would make it easier to now move on.

I am hoping its not an ectopic.

I have worked out my fertile window in accordance to my last light bleeding would be this week — so have DTD today and will try each day this week to cover it

Going to call EPAS in the morning

@sparklestar0 did you take the digital yet?
You do have some symptoms alright. Ringing the EPU is a good idea.
I know what you mean about closing the case and moving on. You just want a definite answer!

This morning at 5am I awoke with abdominal cramps like period about to start and had to take paracetamol - it settled. I fully expected bleeding but none again
paracetamol has settled
no digitals in cupboard but found another clearblue
looked negative at 5am and checked it again before leaving for work looks like an evap line

going to call epas as even if I get a digital negative now i think i really need a scan and bloods at this stage

@sparklestar0 I agree, I think you need to be checked over. Let us know how it all goes x

Pipparoo2025 · 16/06/2025 10:24

Definitely best to get yourself checked out. Hopefully they can get you in quickly!

sparklestar0 · 16/06/2025 15:48

Had TC with EPAS
they said to repeat the test on Friday and if its faint positive to see them at that point

They recon its been a ‘chemical pregnancy’

OP posts:
sparklestar0 · 16/06/2025 16:45

Very faint ‘line’
when will I start to bleed? Or will I at all? My LH strips detected a :-) today so can do tonight?

@sparklestar0 that's very very faint. I'd imagine it will be fully negative by Friday. If it was me personally I'd wait until the pregnancy test was completely negative, just in case. But that's just me!

Pipparoo2025 · 16/06/2025 18:46

Personally I would wait till there wasn’t even a faint line on the test anymore before trying again especially when you aren’t sure if you should expect more bleeding.

sparklestar0 · 16/06/2025 19:29

Thanks @SureLook i agree its very very faint, same brand as Saturdays for comparison where there was a line

I imagine it will be gone by Friday too
will I bleed?
clearblue ovulation strips have shown a smiley face so surely that means I have started to ovulate again?

OP posts:
SureLook · 16/06/2025 19:36

I've not experienced it myself but I would imagine that when you test negative that bleeding will start.
It does sound like you're going to ovulate. Did the EPU advise anything about TTC again?

Pipparoo2025 · 16/06/2025 19:40

CB ovulation tests were always accurate for me so I would assume that means you are ovulating again but without being scanned you have no way of knowing if your body is ready to receive a fertilised egg. When I had my mmc the embryo stopped growing at 6 weeks and I didn’t start spotting till 10 weeks which was the day before my scan. Even with bleeding I still ended up having a D&C as there was some tissue still remaining.

I know when TTC you don’t want to wait/waste a month but it might be better for your body and the health of a future pregnancy to wait till next month.

Were you having strong positive pregnancy tests? This is another one from me tonight. Clearblue and there evaps at their finest

I had positive faint tests for around 2-3 weeks after my D&C. I was told it had to a definitive negative before we could try again. My OB wanted my hormones to level out again before going again. I will say we got pregnant quickly once we tried again.

Could it be the light bleeding i had day 24 of cycle was enough?
I tested strongly positive prior to that then once the spotting started the tests went so faint?

OP posts:
Pipparoo2025 · 16/06/2025 20:25

There is no way to know if it was enough without a scan unfortunately.

They told me at EPAS if I am testing -VE on Friday that ‘thats it’ - which makes me uncomfortable and my medic friend agrees particularly as I have so many symptoms, so many positive tests and ongoing cramps

it is really not normal to be up at 5AM this morning taking paracetamol on day 10/11 of your cycle is it

OP posts:
Pipparoo2025 · 16/06/2025 20:34

Yeah the pain so bad it wakes you up isn’t normal especially if you’ve never cramped before with ovulation. You know what is normal for how you feel at a certain point during your cycle, if you are feeling different to the normal and still no bleeding in a day or two maybe go back to the doc.

SureLook · 17/06/2025 00:01

I would push for a scan and bloods on Friday either way. Just to be 100% sure.

Poppins2016 · 17/06/2025 00:17

LH tests can pick up HCG, so I'd assume it's that (rather than ovulation) if you're getting positive HCG tests.

I'd try again next cycle, if it turns out to be a chemical pregnancy... the general medical consensus seems to be that there's no medical reason to delay (the main reason you might like to delay would be uncertainty about dates, but I personally wouldn't be worried about that... scans exist for a reason).

I tried again straight after a chemical pregnancy and successfully fell pregnant immediately.
