Bleeding after surgical management of MMC

Hello,

I'm new to the app :)

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me as I'm quite confused! I had surgical management of a missed miscarriage on 23rd Decemeber just gone, sadly baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and we found out at an early scan as I had an early miscarriage before that. I didn't have much bleeding after the procedure, just small amounts of bleeding and one day I had a small clot but the bleeding eased off by about day 9 after the procedure. I'm now on day 16 and I've randomly started spotting again. Is it normal to start bleeding again more then 2 weeks after the procedure? I'm just wondering if a period is starting or how long it takes for a period to start. I'm finding it all very confusing, wanted to hear about other experiences!

Also last week I was still testing positive with a pregnancy test but heard its quite normal only 1 week after the procedure.. will take another pregnancy test on Monday as that will be 3 weeks to the day and really hoping for a negative test.

Would love some advice ♥️
Thank you

Hey lovely sorry to hear about your loss.
I had my surgical management on the 24th December just gone with my first pregnancy so I also have no clue about what’s normal and what’s not, but I stopped bleeding around a week and a half after the procedure, but have also had a little bit of spotting since it stopped (more after sex). It’s been 2 weeks and 2 days and my test is still positive too, so it sounds like we’re having a very similar experience. Sorry I can’t give any advice, but hopefully sharing my experience with the same timeline can help in any way x

Thanks so much for your reply and I'm so sorry for your loss too! ♥️

Sounds like we're in the same boat, I'd love to stay up to date with how things go for you. I also had the spotting after sex so wondering if it's something to do with that.. maybe we're still a little sensitive down there!

Are you planning on trying again? I'm confused about that too and When's good. I want to wait for my first period and try after that maybe.

Also I will try another pregnancy test on Monday, let me know when you test positive. It feels a little more comforting going through it together! Xx

Meant to say let me know when you test negative, not positive lol 😖 x

Absolutely🤍
We have spoke about trying again but decided not to put pressure on ourselves, my doctor told me we could try again when the bleeding stopped and she reassured me that what happened doesn’t increase the chance of us having another miscarriage, but I can’t help but be terrified of being pregnant again.
We aren’t being careful so if it happens it happens, and I hope that being super fertile after a miscarriage plays in our favour and it sticks next time, but at the same time I don’t want to put pressure on myself (as impossible as that is to do)
I took a pregnancy test at the weekend, and then one this morning and they are getting lighter so I’m assuming that’s a good thing, it would be good to keep each other updated x

Ah okay fair enough! 😊 totally understand.. it'll happen at the right time and I'm sure you'll go on to have a healthy pregnancy ♥️

That's good that it's getting fainter! I took one last Monday it was very positive, a dark line. I plan to take one Monday coming so really hope it's fainter! Xx

Hello ladies, first of all I’m really sorry to hear of both your losses. I am in a similar position, MMC picked up on an early scan where growth stopped at 6 weeks and had an MVA on Tuesday.
I’ve had very light bleeding since and I actually called EPU as they told me to expect a heavy period - I’ve discussed with them and they said some ladies don’t bleed much, that spotting could come and go and so could little bleeds and just to wear a pad to cover myself for the next few weeks. The only time to worry is really heavy bleeding (soaking through pads in 20 mins - 1 hour). They have said to make sure I do the test after 3 weeks and if it’s positive I need to call back - although said if it’s very light test again in a few days because everyone’s levels are different. I did a test yesterday and mine was still a dye stealer, which is expected so soon after but wanted to know where I started so can monitor if it’s dropping a little.

I hope you are both surrounded with plenty of love and support and are taking care of yourselves!

Just wanted to say I took a pregnancy test this morning and it's negative. I'm 18 days post procedure so hopefully you'll get a negative test soon! Xx

@KT199 hey! 😊

Really sorry to hear about your loss too. Thank you for sharing what EPU advised! Atleast I know the spotting on and off is quite normal. Will just keep an eye on it, although at the moment it's stopped completely.

I remember for the first few days after the procedure I also had very small amounts of bleeding, I also expected it to be a lot worse.

Let us know how the pregnancy tests go? I'm 18 days post procedure and had my first negative test today, and actually took an ovulation test a few days ago and apparently I'm ovulation. So I think maybe my bodies getting back into its regular cycle.

Hope you're getting enough rest and support xx

Ah thank you this is reassuring to hear as I am really hoping my cycles come back swiftly, I don’t want any extra worries!!

I’m only 6 days past my procedure but the bleeding has almost completely stopped now with mainly just spotting of old blood. Don’t plan to try and test for another week or so it least, but assuming my levels are dropping as pre procedure I was still having really bad nausea/sickness and that has definitely subsided completely now and I did not want to eat anything as nothing was appealing but again completely back to normal and enjoying food again! ☺️

Good luck on your journey from here onwards, not sure if you plan to TTC. I haven’t made the decision as to when, but know we will just not sure if I can handle the worry of two lines again so soon but will cross that bridge after my period arrives 😊

Melusina123 · 13/01/2025 13:48

I’ve had 2 MMCs and with both of them there was a bit of bleeding/spotting a couple of weeks after I thought it had stopped. Assumed it was just some retained blood finally making its way out.

KT199 · 17/01/2025 14:30

Ladies, can I just ask how quickly your tests seemed to go from dark to light? I am only 10 days post procedure so expected a positive test still, but it’s still really dark equal to the test line. My official date to test is 11 days away, but a little worried that if next to nothing has changed test wise in 10 days, that 11 days won’t make much of a difference so worried about retained products

Hey, I took a test 7 days post procedure and it was still a dark positive. I didn't take another until 18 days post procedure and by then it was negative x
