MMC - Retained products or new pregnancy?

Hello everyone. Just looking for some advice!

Diagnosed with a MMC in November at 8 weeks, had surgical management on 22nd November which went well. Very minimal bleeding and told we could try again once bleeding stopped. Did OPKs which showed ovulation mid December, so DTD on these days.

10days after this I started to get positive pregnancy tests, which are getting
progressively darker - they started off super light and now are dye stealers (pics attached!)

I was told to do a pregnancy test 2 weeks after the operation which was barely barely there and was progressively getting lighter.

After the positive pregnancy tests in December I went to the GP as I need them to refer me to the EPU (previous pregnancy complications) and they said it was very unlikely to be a new pregnancy and was probably retained products? Has anybody had retained products with lines getting darker? I also have tender breasts and feel pregnant, but doctor said this would be from the retained products. They just said this based on dates and that it would be ‘too soon’, however I’m pretty sure when I ovulated and the dates add up.

I know a scan would tell us what is going on, but our EPU is a nightmare to get hold off and waiting lists are really long. Probably important to say I never had a period after the surgery. Has anyone fallen pregnant without a period in between?

Very anxious after experiencing loss and just need a hand hold! Really trying not to get my hopes up that this could be a new pregnancy but part of me believes it could be.

I’ve attached pics of my pregnancy tests from 27th December to now so you can see the line progression

Thank you x

Hi @HRF2022,

I think this sounds and looks like a new pregnancy.

I got pregnant again straight after a loss without a period, though the doctors generally ask you to wait for a period as otherwise it makes it hard for them to calculate a due date.

It might be worth asking to speak to a different GP (you have the right to a second opinion) and ask them to refer you to the EPU.

If that fails then you could pay for a private viability scan, which aren’t cheap but aren’t as eye watering as you’d expect - I think around £70-90.

I’m sorry for your previous loss and wishing you luck and good thoughts for this one x

Hello! I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage, I had one a few weeks before yours, I hope you've been okay.

It is absolutely possible to get pregnant after a miscarriage. I read a lot of stories on here! I was hoping the same would happen to me haha! If you ovulated and saw the ovulation lines get darker, then the likelihood is that you ovulated.

Either way, your GP should absolutely refer you to EPU, as you need to know whether it's retained products or a pregnancy. I agree with @CWC in relation to asking for a second opinion. Best of luck with everything x

I am sorry for your loss.
I got pg 1 week after a D&C following a loss at 12 weeks, had no idea it was even possible and we only DTD once.
My period hadn't returned and I was basically pg for a year!
Physically all was fine but I have to admit that it was very very hard psychologically.
DD is 19 now and I also have a 16 year old and both are awesome
Best of luck x
