Pregnant after 2 losses- what happens next?

Hi all,

we have had 2 losses this year- both in early pregnancy. I’m 4 weeks pregnant atm. Very very nervous about it all.

I was advised after last my last miscarriage that I would be open to EPAS this time and would have scans through them. I imagine this will be from 6 weeks. They also said I would be offered progesterone if needed- is this just of any signs of miscarriage begin? Is there anything else I should be doing or expect to happen in terms of maternity care?

Thanks in advance

Hi congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with it going forward. I was in a similar position and was monitored with weekly scans. That kiddo just graduated uni!

It was mixed feelings throughout. Happy for half the week after a normal scan. Worried the second half waiting for the next scan. I haven't any more to say other than to tell you of a positive outcome in similar circumstances.

Thank you. That is reassuring.

In my case, nothing happened. I was told it was only after 3 back to back miscarriages that I'd get any testing or additional monitoring. However, I never got to that point as the 3rd pregnancy went well and I had my now-11 yo son. I think often by the time there are signs of miscarriage, it's too late to do much, so if you've been told they'll give you progesterone, you should go to your doctor ASAP and ask what the plan is.
Good luck! Chances are good that you'll be fine this time. Miscarriages are common and having had two isn't necessarily any indication that there's anything wrong. It's grim, though. So hard. Seeing my son move on the 12 week scan was one of the most emotional moments of my life, I was so sure it would be another loss. And now he's approaching puberty!

Thank you. I’ve called EPAS this morning and left a voicemail asking for a bit of advice. I’m so paranoid. Really want to relax and enjoy it but it’s hard.

I don’t have any advice but wanted to comment as I’m pretty much in the exact same boat. Had a miscarriage at 9 weeks beginning of last year and another at 11 weeks (found out at a scan at 9.5) end of August this year. I’m around 5.5 weeks now with my third and have a scan with the EPU Thursday to see if it’s viable right now.

For this scan I just called up and asked for it due to previous miscarriages and they booked me in right away so hopefully it will be the same for you.
Hoping the best for both of us ☺️

Hey, also in the exact same situation - I'm 4 weeks, and this is my third pregnancy this year... after two miscarriages I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by what the next few weeks might have in store. But got to try and stay hopeful! Thank you to other posters for the reminder that a very positive outcome is possible. X

Best of luck to both of you- its such a nerve wracking time.

EPAS booked me in for a scan in a few weeks- will be just over 7 weeks by then. So, crossing everything.

A wee update- I’ve had very light, pink spotting most of today but nothing at all for the last few hours. Wondering if this is an implantation bleed or start or mc.

All fingers crossed for you! How has today been?

Hi.
I had that many miscarriages that my EPAU knew me by name .
I went to them following a particularly horrific miscarriage as I felt so unwell, I thought I had “retained products”.
Turned out it was a new pregnancy.
They then scanned me weekly until about 14 weeks as I recall then every 3-4 weeks. All reassurance scans.

It was a healthy pregnancy at long last.

Regarding progesterone, I believe that to be the cause of the last miscarriage being so utterly horrific, that and asprin. For me, it did not prevent miscarriage.

wingingit1987 · 05/12/2024 21:03

No bleeding at all today- just mild cramp and sore boobs so I’m hoping it’s been an implantation bleed.

I just came across this thread after posting it away back in December. Incase it comes up when anyone else searches miscarriages- I’m currently 38 weeks and being induced in a few days. So there can be some light at the end of the tunnel!

Me too! Currently 38 weeks and in latent stages of labour!
