Recurrent miscarriage at 14 weeks been diagnosed with protect s deficiency

I've had recurrent miscarriages all around 14 weeks.

I have lost 4 babies all at 14 weeks and now again so that's my 5th baby loss at 14 weeks.

After my last pregnancy (the 4th loss) I was diagnosed with protein s deficiency so was put on blood thinners and aspirin 75mg for this pregnancy (5th loss).. I read everywhere how the thinners help so was really looking forward to this pregnancy.

I had my scan 2 weeks ago, we saw a healthy baby with a heartbeat.. all was well.. Now at 14 weeks I came in for my 14 weeks checkup and unfortunately again the baby has no longer got a heartbeat :(

I'm really confused with this situation.. can anyone please advice if you have been through same experience?? Why at 14 weeks???

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I don’t have experience of protein S deficiency, but hopefully someone will be along soon that does.

But, I do have experience of recurrent loss and how hard it can be.

Are you under the management of a miscarriage clinic? Hopefully they may be able to give you some of those answers.

But in the meantime, look after yourself, and hopefully there will be a rainbow in the future for you x

Thank you for your kind message.

Did they manage to find out the cause of your recurrent miscarriages?

I have an MTHFR gene variant that is linked to miscarriage. I also have had problems with blood flow to the placenta in my successful pregnancies (one before, one after the three losses).

It was treated by taking aspirin and heparin for my second successful pregnancy. I think I got lucky with baby number one, really.

Hopefully you’ll get some answers too x

I don't understand why blood thinners didn't work for me

What dosage were you given.. also what was the name and dosage of your bloodthinners ,

We're they taking at the same time everyday.. mine wasn't taken at the same time... I regret it as I thought the thinners would work for me :(

It was 150mg aspirin and low molecular weight heparin. I can’t remember the dosage for the heparin.

Please don’t beat yourself up about not taking them perfectly. I’m sure I didn’t. Sometimes it’s just really awful luck, or it may be you also need progesterone to help support the pregnancy. (I did). Hopefully the clinic will be able to better support you in future.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I was also on progesterone :(

Really upsetting it all didn't work for me

I’m not surprised you’re finding it really upsetting, you’ve been through a lot.

The Miscarriage Association run group sessions that I found so useful. Just in a room/online with a group of women who just got it. You can share as much or as little as you like of your story. I also had private therapy. The combination of the two lifted me out of a really difficult place x

So sorry for your losses @Ladyhasi
I hope you try again and have a successful pregnancy.

I'm so sorry OP. I don't have anything helpful to offer except to say yes Protein C or S deficiency or V Leiden or all those kinds of things can cause miscarriage as late as 14 weeks and even if you are injecting heparin. I've had many miscarriages of exactly that nature - they think it can be that the blood makes tiny clots in the placenta so the blood thinner works to get you over the first hump of implantation, but then eventually the placenta can't support the embryo. It utterly sucks to have a loss when you have seen strong heartbeats and good scans. xx

Thank you for your reply.. sorry to hear

Were you also put on blood thinners? Did they help you?

Yes as I said I was injecting heparin from embryo transfer onwards. It did help implantation but miscarriages still happened, only later.

Sorry to hear

Hi @Ladyhasi
I'm so sorry to hear this.
I’m currently pregnant at 14 and half and I’ve got really bad anxiety due to also having protein s deficiency. I have been taking blood thinners since 5 weeks and also progesterone. After my 12 week scan, I have been put on aspirin as I am classed as high risk for placental insufficiency/dysfunction. So I am in a quite similar situation to yourself. Do you have any advice

GutsyGreenStork · 25/01/2025 01:30

Also where they all miscarriages or missed miscarriages
