How long after the medical management for miscarriage to have a negative pregnancy test

Hi all,
I took medications (misoprostol) for mmc on the 20th of August and I believe I have passed EVERYTHING…it was something that I couldn’t immagine..and yet that’s my 3rd miscarriage but never had medical management before.
I know I should be waiting 3 weeks before taking a pregnancy test but I cannot wait to know that I am out of risk of further surgery. Anyone took a pregnancy test before the 3 weeks and had negative result?
thank you so much for ur help! X

Hi. It took up to 3 weeks each time for me to get a negative.
The hormones can hang around for a long time I believe.

I had many many miscarriages and never bothered with pregnancy tests in the end, just went by symptoms and waited for my period.

Symptoms like pain, discharge, temperature. If I had none of those then I knew it had all come away and things were settling down.
HTH

I guess I’ve been pretty lucky. I was always told 2 weeks and my pregnancy hormones would be gone. They’re right! My tests were all negative!x

I had a negative test about 2 weeks after surgical management for MMC. They said to call them if it was still positive 3 weeks after as I might have retained tissue.

@LER2023 thank you. Did u do a blood test? Or just pregnancy test at home?

Took me about 3 and a half weeks to get a negative after medical management of MMC in July. Had a blood test to check my hCG was at a low enough level after the 3 week mark and they said it was just a matter of waiting so luckily no further treatment as I definitely would not have opted for further medical management after the first round.

Hope you’re doing okay OP, it’s such a shit time isn’t it x

@LER2023 thank you. Did u do a blood test? Or just pregnancy test at home?

Just an at home pregnancy test that they gave me at the hospital.

for some reason my gp/hospitals don’t like doing hcg bloods🙄

Hi,

i just wondered after you took the medication, when did the bleeding start? Just taken the meds.

Confusedmermaid1 · 13/09/2024 20:20

@SophieRules I started bleeding pretty heavily the following morning, before the second dose. The nurse who gave me the medication said I would likely only have spotting before the second dose but it was extremely heavy so I’m not sure if that’s typical. I’d recommend going to bed with a night time pad if you have any just in case. Hope you’re doing as okay as you can in times like these x
