Heartbeat found at 7 weeks then not at 10- MMC?

Hi there I’m after some advice please!

I previously had a private scan which confirmed I was 7 weeks pregnant, 1 gestation sac containing:
1 live embryo with a visible heartbeat measuring 9.9mm. Yolk sac seen.
The uterus contains an area of haemorrhage measuring 5.7mm X 9.3mmx 14.9

All seemed fine! No signs anything was wrong still having pregnancy symptoms.

I booked another private scan on Friday just gone for my mom to come see the baby at 10 weeks 1 day and no heartbeat was found. Baby was still there in the yolk however also no blood flow to the baby anymore.

I’ve been referred to my hospital on Wednesday for confirmation of MMC and been given no further information. As it’s a weekend the early pregnancy unit is closed and I’m getting nowhere on Google.

im aware it’s likely that it is a MMC as I’ve had no symptoms of a MC at all, and I have come to terms with that now. However what can I expect on my appointment on Wednesday if no heartbeat is found?

as I would of then had 2 scans confirming no HB, will I be offered a medical miscarriage treatments there and then on the day?

I really don’t like the idea of waiting and letting nature take its course. Happy for the tablets to be inserted and wait for it at home but I don’t want to wait 3 weeks for this to happen.

any advice is welcome please!
I really want to MC now to start the process of healing, so sooner the better. Or will the hospital make me wait for this to happen naturally? What are my choices? :(

So sorry you are going through this and it does sound a bit like my MMC. If it is then you should be offered three options of natural management, medical management or surgery. The EPU don’t normally recognise private scans so will likely do their own scan and in my case wanted two sonographers to check the results. I was offered all three options straight away x

Thank you so much for your reply!
I’m so sorry you have been through this too, it’s so difficult when it’s your first experience with it being over the weekend too so it means a lot to have your reply!

I had read that they might want to do their own test which will be so hard to wait again!

Ive just noticed it says on my scan picture from Friday the baby is measuring at around 15.6mm so thats 8 weeks 0 days.

With it being over 2 weeks with no natural movement I’m hopeful I’m offered some assistance to pass quicker!

I’m sorry, it’s such a horrible situation but they should offer you all three options straight away in my experience and hopefully they will talk you through the options too. The miscarriage association has some really useful information if you wanted to start reading up on the options ahead of your appointment and lots of women on mumsnet have shared their experiences on threads in the past. Sorry that you are having to go through this, from my experience EPU staff are really nice and helpful x

Thank you again for your kind words and reassurance of what to expect.
I’ve been having a good search on here today and reading everyone’s experiences with the 3 different ways of MCing and it’s brought a bit of clarity to it all and I feel more prepared now for what’s to come and I think I’ll be able to make a decision on which way to go forward by Wednesday!

Can I ask which way you chose and whether you would recommend it or not, if it’s not too hard to talk about, please?

I’m so sorry @Unsuregirlie It really is so unfair. Same as previous posters, I found out at a private scan. NHS don’t recognise the private scans, but as I was measuring at 8 weeks when there should be a heartbeat, I had 2 sonographers confirm the miscarriage so didn’t have to come back a week later or anything like that. It’s only if the baby is measuring small, say 6 weeks I think, that they’d make you wait a week or 2 for another scan.

I’ve had 2 miscarriages, and had medical and surgical management. I found there to be pros and cons to both, hopefully you’ll know after speaking to the EPU which is best for you xx

Hi, unfortunately I had two MMCs - I chose medical management both times. The first time it worked okay but I had retained tissue and it seemed to take months to clear; the second time I chose medical management again but it didn’t work that time and I needed surgery in the end. I hope none of us are in this position in the future, but I’d definitely choose MVA (a type of surgery) in the future as the experience with medical management just seems too unpredictable and surgery is much more controlled and the physical side is over quicker. X

Very similar thing happened to me last Thursday at a private scan. I'd previously seen the heartbeat and all was on track when EPU scanned me at 7 weeks so it's a shock. Private scan place referred me immediately to EPU and they called me the same day. I was booked in with them Friday morning. They did another scan to confirm MMC as they won't accept private scans. Then they talked me through the 3 options. I'd already done a lot of research so I knew I wanted surgical management but they should let you decide what's best for you. I'm booked in for an MVA next week. Now I just have to wait. All this to say I'm sorry you're going through this too. It's really tough mentally and physically xxxx

Sorry this is happening to you. I had 2 MMC and they treated me virtually the next day.

I went for a medical miscarriage the first time and then ended up having surgery anyway for retained products.
So send one I went for surgery straight away. In my experience so much better. In and out in a day and no bleeding afterwards. Just waited for period and then could try again.

Currently 8 weeks pregnant and hoping this one doesn't go the same way xx
