How long did you bleed after medical management of a MMC?

Found out at almost 11 weeks that I'd had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks. Went for the medical management yesterday. Inserted the tablets vaginally around 10.45am. Second dose was given orally 3 hours later. Really bad cramping started at around 2pm. Bleeding started around 3pm. This felt like gushes of water initially. Was discharged around 4pm. Came home, still cramping and bleeding. At around 8pm my very long and heavy pad was full and I passed something quite large (sac?). Since then the bleeding and cramping has gotten very light, the bleeding is scant now. I know everyone reacts differently to the medicine, but did anyone have a similar experience? Was the medical management successful or did you need to have surgical management at a later point?

I am so sorry for your loss. I had medical in November. I passed the sac the same day, and then had bleeding for a couple of days after, but wasn’t much bleeding at all really. I didn’t need any other intervention either. It took me about 5wks for a negative test though, but all turned out fine.
I hope you have a similar experience

I had full period type bleeding for about 5 days but my in hospital experience was much different.

@Figtree11 that's reassuring to know. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I am sorry for your loss also.

@StuffLoriThangs sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. In what way was your in hospital experience different if you don't mind me asking?

I was in for a lot longer. Wasn’t really bleeding at all in hospital, but lots of pain. I don’t think I could get my cervix open enough to pass our baby.

so they needed to put a speculum in and give me a bit of help. But once that was done, they discharged me. But no retained products or anything like that

period type bleeding for about 8 days after (sorry, I just checked my period app there)

I guess to answer, the medical management was successful. But the hospital experience was not what it was described to me to be when given the choice, I think is what I mean

Really sorry for your loss, ive had 3 mc's, 3 rounds of medical management.
Twice the pregnancy has passed the same day, when it did pass the same day, i was bleeding roughly a week afterwards and then nothing.
When i had gone back to EPAU, theyve said i dont have retained tissue.

My third, i had already passed the pregnancy naturally (which was really REALLY painful.
I went back to EPAU the week after to be told there was retained tissue after passing the oregnancy naturally. So i had to have MM, when i did the tissue passed the same day and i was bleeding for around 4 days😊

First pregnancy i was 6+1, second i was 5+6, and third my sac was measuring 9 weeks and baby was measuring 6+2 (really strange!! With no explanation but baby didnt have a heart beat and was told it wouldnt be a successful pregnancy at this stage)

I hope this helps. You usually pass the pregnancy same day, its unusual not to, as you will have had a tablet to open your cervix and the medication contracts your uterus, to be fair i inserted both sets of medication rather than doing it orally as EPAU had said it would take longer doing it orally x

Slightly Different situations but keen to get as much info out there as possible for any future people who are trying to find out info! I was a bit further along so my bleeding is maybe going to last longer I guess but thought I’d share :)

our medical induction was at 15w+3d. Tablets inserted vaginally at 1:10pm. I was in labour until 5:20pm where I delivered baby. I bled heavily after for about two days, then five days of a modernity heavy period. Then it was lighter for a week and then I’m now on about day 5 of very very light brown discharge. So it’s been 18 days so far for me. My pregnancy test after two weeks was very much still postive, didn’t need to hunt for a line or anything. I did another this morning (18 days post loss) and it looked negative, but tbh - I think I was just being super hopeful because when you really look there is a very faint line - but it’s getting lighter which is good. So I’m thinking by 3 weeks it’ll be completely negative which from everything I’ve read that seems normal.

praying for all of our rainbow babies xxxxx
