Waiting for period after mc - body playing tricks?

Hi guys, I'm new to joining mumsnet but found real stories of other women so comforting when miscarrying at the end of March, nearly 4 weeks ago at 8 and a half weeks.

I experienced spotting throughout, which turned into a few small clots, was referred to EPU at 6 and a half weeks, baby was measuring smaller but had a heartbeat and all appeared fine apart from a small shadow on the scan. Went back to EPU 2 weeks later and the baby no longer had a heartbeat.

Miscarried naturally which took about a week and went back to confirm no retained product. Symptoms completely went away but didn't check if I was testing negative, which I know you're supposed to do.

Just after 2 weeks on from when mc stopped I experienced quite a lot of cm, for a few days. I didn't track ovulation or anything.

I've been feeling slightly nauseous and constipated with more wind and need to pee more. It's quite triggering to feel the same symptoms again (apart from the sore boobs).

I know these are all normal period symptoms but my brain feels like it's rewired these to be pregnancy and I don't remember what a normal period feels like! Has anyone been through similar, experiencing some of these symptoms again before their first period after mc? Did you find that your first period was heavier with more symptoms?

Tomorrow is 3 weeks since my mc stopped.

Sending love to anyone going through similar at the moment, such a confusing, anxious timeFlowers

I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. I had a miscarriage at the start of February and it’s been such an emotional rollercoaster since then.

I would test, there might be a positive left over from the miscarriage but usually not after 3 weeks (although I’m not medically trained, just what my dr told me!) So if it does come up positive I’d be a tiny bit hopeful and see if you can get into the EPAU for a scan.

I didn’t have a period for 8 weeks after my miscarriage and it’s been very very light, definitely not back into cycles yet. I tested negative by week 2.

Hoping it’s all good news from here on out!

@Cadela thank you, I'm so sorry for your loss as well. I think just as you think you're dealing with it there's a reminder.

I tested this morning which would be 3 weeks after, with a cheap boots stick I had in the house but showing negative. I'm kind of glad I know that my hcg levels aren't just still high but so confusing having symptoms come and go still.

If you don't mind me asking were you always quite regular beforehand? I feel like I've heard from a few people that it can mess with your cycles.

This is why it's so much better to speak with other women actually going through it because when you google it comes up with so many results of 'your period will be heavier than usual' and you have a idea of how it 'should' be but it's not always the way.

Thank you so much for replying, and sending lots of love and positive, healing energy for the future BiscuitFlowers

Progesterone rises between ovulation and period which is why so many PMS symptoms mimic early pregnancy. Can’t tell you how many months I was convinced I wouldn’t come on as my boobs were so sore, had wind and felt a tiny bit nauseous - then I found out about the spike in progesterone and all made sense!

it will drop if you’re not pregnant when you come on, but continue to rise if you are.

id prob do a pregnancy test now just so I knew I’d had the negative ready for next cycle… also very possible you are pregnant straight after MC, happens to lots of women x
