Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

First period after miscarriage? Why is this happening?

I had a medically managed miscarriage on 14th Feb! (Great Vday I had - not!).

Positive ovulation sticks on 13th and 14th March.

Brown spotting on 24th March. I was kinda hoping it was implantation bleeding but negative test.

Reading online it seems hopeless and this spotting is my period. It's barely there and mostly only when I wipe. It suggests thin uterine lining.

There's some suggestion of Asherman's Syndrome.

Would I be unreasonable in getting a private scan to check thickness? This is utterly rubbish. I had implantation bleeding during my miscarriage and my one successful pregnancy so I assumed this was it.

I feel devastated. I honestly think a heavy bleed would have been more of a relief.

Hello, our timings are very similar. I had a MMC which resulted in a MVA on the 16th Feb. I didn’t do any testing but got a clear HCG three weeks after. However 3Week 4 days MVA after I started to bleed. It was ridiculously light, similar to you- only there when I wiped. I was also freaked out because everything said you’d get your period 4-8 weeks after. I rang the EPU and they said it was my period just returning earlier. However it was so light! I’ve just put it down to my body is so hormonal and recovering; I will see what this period is like next month but it’s just all so worrying isn’t it!

I'm in a similar boat to you (had surgical management for a miscarriage on 9th Feb), however my period hasn't returned at all, 6 and a half weeks later!! I've had a few instances of bad period pains last week/this week but then no blood at all. I'm sooo paranoid about Ashermans so I feel your pain - I think if you can afford it then do the private scan to put your mind at ease. The only thing I'm clinging to at the moment is that for some women it can take up to 10 weeks for it to return properly. So I think by that point if I still have nothing I'll get back in contact with my EPU.

It might be that this cycle might just be longer so the spotting might be the start of it and in the next few days it could come full flow for you? Some people have told me their first one afterwards was light then the one after that was more normal (whereas others have said it was super heavy first one after - I definitely had that with my last miscarriage, but clearly not this one!)

@esb27 I had my surgery the day before you. Did you check to see when you ovulated? It took over 4 weeks for me to ovulate and we TTC straight away. I thought I was getting my period as I was spotting on Monday but did a pregnancy test and it was a faint positive. Bleeding continued and epu have said it's most likely a chemical. I asked about lining etc but she didn't give much just said that surgery doesn't cause further MCs but I'm not convinced as I'm the same worrying about Ashermans.

Update:
Turned into normal bleeding.

  • 3 days of brown spotting (not normal for me).
  • currently on day 2 of regular red bleeding so far.
  • confident it's not Ashermans and think my lining is probably normal thickness.
  • still think I want to go for a fertility scan just to check a few things.
  • brown bleeding linked to anaemia- did a home test and it says my ferritin is low - not a surprise despite my supplement allegedly giving me 200% RDA.

I'M GRATEFUL FOR ALL YOU GUYS, I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS SUB IS FAB AND DESERVE ALL THE LOVE, FERTILITY AND BABIES POSSIBLE.

I did try to check for ovulation, my ov tests were still positive whilst my pregnancy tests were so it was hard to really get the truth, plus I couldn't temp as I use an internal one and I wasn't allowed to use that. I did get a very strong positive ovulation test 2 weeks post surgery (around 26th Feb) - stronger than others- and by then my preg test was barely visible but then nothing materialised two weeks after that.
Oh wow you ttc'ed straight after? sorry that it turned out to be a chemical :( that's tough after a missed miscarriage.
I just don't get what's going on, I don't like not having a cycle, makes me feel SO out of control. I keep getting period like feelings/pains but then nothing happens. Driving me nuts.

@esb27 mines were the same positive even with a faint line on pregnancy test. I ovulated around 2 weeks after a completely negative test. Yes I just really want to he pregnant again but going to skip April and let my body heal. I think I was desperate for a certain age gap for my son but that's not going to happen now.

@Beeches24 glad to hear the bleeding seems to be back to normal. I think Google convinces everyone they have Ashermans but it's not very common so hopefully we're all ok 😊

Yeah I totally get it, I wanted to as well but I have a planned hysteroscopy coming up so couldn't anyways! I couldn't bring myself to keep testing for ovulation after my preg tests went neg. I just assumed my body would do it's thing like last time (that took 5 weeks) but so far no good!! :(
