PIC TMI miscarriage / ectopic pregnancy do you think? With Pic TMI

PIC TMI Hi all, hope you’re all ok.
So this is a completely unplanned pregnancy and a big shock. I am 43 , DH is 49. We were ttc in our 30s but couldn’t - I have pcos and he has low sperm motility. We were told ICSI was the best option but decided to accept it was not to be. Fast forward and Im pregnant! ( or was 😕)

I started what i thought was my period around the beginning -mid october but knew something wasn’t right as for two nights in a row had very painful cramping on one side ( my left) … I never get period pains like that. I bled red for one day .. not much .. enough to fill a super tampon and that was it, no clots etc. Since then i’ve been spotting brown whe n I wipe. ( 2 + weeks i think roughly). It’s not gone into my knickers, just wiping. It was accompanied by cramping but light. further and further on the cramps became lighter and more spaced apart ( 2 a day maybe lasting a few mins) and the brown spotting is still there but very light and almost stopped. I’m really concerned that the first time i bled when it was red and excruciating left side pains was a miscarriage or ectopic. MY GP palpated me yesterday and said nothing is tender but i need to get scanned asap. Finally i have a scan tomorrow at 09.40. HCG levels are still high i think - tests dark and stealing the dye from control window still. says 3+ weeks on the clear blue digital, but i know levels can stay in your system for weeks later: GP said it’s too early to start thinking about ectopics and miscarriages but you can miscarry at any point!
I’m just obsessed with googling but everything i read points to ectopic or miscarriage. I shouldn’t be spotting brown like this and cramps for over 2 weeks should I ?

The pic attached is from 2 days ago - since then there’s barely anything atall … i have to wipe quite hard and it’s light brown haven’t passed any gloopy bits like this since. and before that it was only the day i started bleeding right at the beginning on the tampon.
My own guessed implantation date was 18th october i think but no way would blood still be there from then??

did anyone have this and was ectopic/miscarriage even though tailed off and barely anymore cramping ?
Do you think this was a very early/missed miscarriage/ectopic and it’s just the symptoms are starting to stop but high HCG still in my system?

Im just stressing about this scan tomorrow 😩😩😩

Not a lot of advice here but didn’t want to read and run!

Not sure when you did your first pregnancy test but it’s a good sign that it still says 3+.

I had a lot of cramping and spotting in early pregnancy but it all worked out okay. I know others who had bleeding and it also turned out okay.

It’s really hard to say unfortunately as everyone’s experience will be different. I’m glad the gp checked you over and it’s good you’re getting a scan. It might be quite early to see anything in the scan but hopefully Epu will be able to advise you.

Hi @KK43 , I have no experience but I have read a lot of women on here who experience cramps and some bleeding especially during the first trimester, they even state this is normal. The cramps may be the normal stretcing and changes taking place to accommodate the pregnancy. I hope all goes well with your scan. Its hard but try not to worry and its good the symptoms are tapering off and you still have a strong positive test. Its also good youve had no clots if ive read your post right?

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for your reply 🙂

@Hiddenvoice Two normal line tests i did saturday, and then two digitals sunday (normal one and the one that said 3+ weeks).

@carsty no I’ve had no clots that’s correct. Just that gloopy bit in the first pic x

These are my tests from 3 days ago and today. I’m worried as the one from today is lighter than the ones 3 days ago 😕 I’m going out of my mind. I’m so nervous about scan tomorrow . x

Sorry @KK43 it’s hard to tell. I’ve been in your exact situation and it’s horrible. The night before my scan I cried on and off for hours, just afraid of what I may or may not see on the screen.

All I can at is put your phone away, tidy the tests away for tonight, get into bed and watch a rubbish tv show that you like. Try your hardest to get some sleep.

Sadly everything is out of your control and there’s nothing you can do. This is really hard to hear and even harder to try and accept. I felt if I could keep testing then I could predict what would happen and prepare myself.

My situation worked out, I had spotting and brown discharge and seen a flicker of a heartbeat at 6 weeks. I cried so much with relief but what the midwife said before will always stick with me.
She held my hand and said what will be will be. Whatever happens is not my fault and I have no control over this situation so need to let myself feel all the emotions.

I’ve got all my fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow. Please try your hardest to sleep tonight.

There’s no way to tell now, I’m afraid, but I had bleeding like this and DS is about to turn 18. I have everything crossed for you.

KK43 · 21/11/2023 22:12

@Hiddenvoice thankyou so much for your kind and thoughtful wise words. I know you’re completely right and I will try to get some sleep. I just hope I don’t turn up for my appointment and sit there waiting as they’re running late 🙈 Now that would be torture!
Ill post an update but I think going in there and expecting the worst might be the best thing to do. I know that at my age, 43, and with PCOS does put me at a much higher risk of ectopic & miscarriage. Although I more than likely have more eggs than someone my age who doesn’t have pcos, they will still have declined in terms of healthiness.
Fingers crossed.
Thankyou again for your words xxxx

Thankyou so much everybody for your words. I think I googled way too much over the past week. I am 8 weeks with a strong healthy heartbeat 🤗 there is a slight bleed but most likely old implantation bleeding being pushed out she said. x

That’s amazing news @KK43
Hopefully the next 4 weeks will fly by and you can see the little one again at the 12 week scan!

Alloveragain3 · 22/11/2023 12:45

Fabulous update OP! Big congratulations!

carsty · 22/11/2023 15:52

KK43 · 22/11/2023 17:48

Thankyou everybody! Still in shock I think! I went in there with the expectance it was no longer there. Hopefully all will be ok at 12 weeks x
