Two ectopics, looking for stories of hope?

This is my first post on mumsnet, little bit about me - I have had one healthy pregnancy resulting in my nine year old dd. Got pregnant without trying and had a very uneventful pregnancy. Fast forward to last June where I fell pregnant on my first try again (different father) that pregnancy unfortunately ended in a chemical pregnancy. Fell pregnant again the cycle after with no period in between and ended up with a ruptured ectopic losing my left tube in surgery. Exactly one year after my chemical pregnancy I had another chemical! I thought surely I can’t be unlucky to have another ectopic so we went for it and turns out we were. I had another ectopic in my remaining tube exactly one year to the day after my last ectopic. I was treated with methotrexate this time and am still in the three month wait to try again.

The reason for my post is that I am really struggling to find many stories of anyone having a successful pregnancy after two ectopics, we don’t qualify for any IVF on the NHS because of my child from a previous relationship. It’s just a generally miserable time and I am still reeling from everything that has happened in such a short space of time. I have been offered a HSG procedure to check my remaining tube but have read that it can just give false hope.

Has anyone been in the same position as me and ended up with a pregnancy in the right place naturally?

I've had two ectopics, left side (methotrexate) and right side (ruptured and removed). Unfortunately we've been TTC for almost a year now and no luck, so I can't give any positive stories there. However I feel like I've read every thread, post or forum and there are many women out there who have had success after ectopics so it definitely does happen - though there's really not much out there in terms of two or more ectopics.

I did have a hycosy in summer which gave me some peace of mind, at least I knew my tube was open and we hadn't been trying for nothing. So if it's offered to you, I'd recommend it anyway.

It's really shit, I completely understand, I'm here for any support if you need it!

Thank you for your reply, I am so sorry for your losses. It really is the most painful thing to go through in every sense.

I think I will have the hycosy when I am feeling brave enough.

Not two ectopics but I had an ectopic in my right side, treated with methotrexate and fell pregnant with dd from the same side, we had a private scan and she told us I'd ovulated from that side. Was quite surprised as I still have twingy pain there even those she's now four and was convinced I had a lot of damage.
I had a miscarriage before her and was convinced we'd never have kids.
I appreciate its not the same experience but the ectopic side worked in the end!

@mumognew that’s really reassuring to hear that you conceived from the tube that you’d had the ectopic in, thank you.

Hiya,

I had two ectopics. One was treated with methotrexate and it eventually resolved. Unfortunately 6 months later it happened again in the same tube. They offered the drug again but I decided to get the tube removed, as I couldn’t go through the heartache of a 3rd ectopic. It was clear something wasn’t quite right with it anyway.

I started trying again after 3 months and got a positive pregnancy test pretty much straight away. It was a horribly anxious time but luckily after my early scan, they discovered it was in the right place. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

3 years later I had another positive test, and had another healthy pregnancy.

Don’t lose hope, there are many many stories of women who have had multiple ectopics and gone on to have healthy pregnancies. I hope you will be amongst them soon! Fingers crossed.

I had two ectopics and then a healthy baby. I didn’t think I had much chance and I was planning to go for IVF. On the appointment day, I found out I was pregnant, how strange is that?

I did have HSG not long before to check the remaining tube, I heard it could sometimes help to clear it. I also had a few sessions of acupuncture for fertility and a relaxing holiday.

Thank you for all your replies, it seems it might not be as hopeless as I thought. When I was in hospital the last time, one of the doctors said something along the lines of “you’ll probably keep having ectopics in the future so best to go straight for IVF, your clock is ticking” (I’m 33) it’s difficult to remain positive really when someone says something like that!

@Aurorapat
What a shit doctor!
I got pregnancy the first time we tried after the ectopic, on that side, at 37....

lemonyfox · 29/10/2023 17:49

@Aurorapat that is a really shitty thing for the doctor to have said. The Consultant I saw after my 2nd ectopic and hycosy asked me whether I wanted to consider the IVF route now, but was clear and said statistically my chance of conceiving a healthy pregnancy is still significantly higher than either not conceiving/ or a 3rd ectopic. If that gives you any hope! X

Aurorapat · 29/10/2023 19:33

@mumognew @lemonyfox your responses definitely give me hope. I feel as though that particular doctor was an exception and very harsh!

Hello, please help.... I haven't had a period since July 31st, i had 3 tiny specks of blood last week, now this today only when I wipe. I've had an ectopic before but all tests are negative. Thank you.

@Jessicaaspi
Have you had this checked? Unfortunately my ectopic symptoms included watery blood
