Early miscarriage (5.4weeks) what to expect

Hi

I've just had a cycle of IVF and my HCGs are dropping a lot so am to expect a miscarriage. I haven't had anything happen yet possibly because I'm on loads of progesterone meds but I will stop these in the next few days.

What happens with such an early m/c - should I expect very heavy bleeding and cramps or just a slightly worse than normal period??

I wouldn't need a D&C would I?

Any advice welcome.

Hi. I can't imagine how huch pain you are going through now. This has not happened to me but my big sister has had three. Her first was at 6 weeks. She said she had abdominal cramps and heavy bleeding. She could see clumps of clotts. She had a D&C with the next one as she was a bit further on, she had an early scan and there was just a sac with no heartbeat. She now has a healthy, happy one year old. I'd send you a big hug if I could.

I had one around 6 weeks, it was a very heavy period type with period type pain which i managed with co-codomol i recall, i would think you would be left to let nature take its course. You will prob pass something resembling parts of a sac at some point but not to much being so early. It is still traumatic though no matter how early so take care of yourself. Sending Hugs.... Also they said to me to lay about with my legs raised but as it was inevitable i didnt kinda see the point and felt moving about got it over a little more quickly. Sorry you are going through this.... , chin up....

Thanks guys.

Does the bleeding normally begin pretty quickly....oh goodness the waiting will do my head in! I just want to get on with my life now after all these weeks of drugs and treatment.

hi im really sorry for your loss. i was actually the same as you 5.5 weeks. i miscarried last monday so they think. i actually dont have my scan until thursday to find out if anything is still there or not. i had what resembled period like cramps in the morning. went to docs and when i came out i passed a walnut sized clot(sac?). i was intermitedly bleeding throughout the day. i bled for 2 days and then everything stopped. i suppose everyones experiences are different. if you want to talk about what has happened or have any questions PLEASE EMAIL ME!!!

The bleeding is likely to start the more active you are. Mine were quite painful, worse than period pains at times. i'd get some painkillers in. Once it starts i'd rest as much as you can, it could take a lot of your energy.
Don't be afraid to grieve, just because its early on doesn't mean you can't be sad.
so sorry yor pregnancy hasn't continued this time.
I lost 2 and now have a 19 month old and a 4 month old. don't give up hope.

hi
thanks everyone.
i will go and buy some industrial sized sanitary towels and have some painkillers in already left over from something else.

Given what I have to go through to get pregnant in the first place and the fact i have my lovely ds i think we'll probably call it a day with treatment. I'm not so upset as i have1 child i thought i might not have had and am grateful for him.
