Second dose of misoprostrol for retained products

Hi

I am after a bit of advice about my bleeding/period after medical management! I’ve read so many threads but can’t seem to find the answer anywhere.

I had a missed miscarriage found around a month ago at my 12 week scan. I was 12+6 but baby was only measuring 8.5 weeks. Decided on medical management which seemed to go ok. 3 weeks later I took a pregnancy test which turned out to be a very strong positive. Went to epau and they scanned me and confirmed retained products.

Thursday just gone I had a second dose of misoprostrol, initially bleeding and cramping were a lot worse than the first dose but they have slowed down much more quickly. I am worried this means it has not worked again and I will end up with another round of medication or a d and c? Also how will the second dose of misoprostrol affect my period? It was taken nearly 4 weeks after the initial dose.

Any ideas?

Hey, OP xx How did you get on? I have retained products also and am due to see my EPU this coming Wednesday.

Hey @VolvoFan
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this as well! 2nd dose of misoprostrol didn’t work for me and neither did the ERPC they then did 🙄 I ended up in total with 4 doses of miso, the ERPC and then a hysteroscopy which eventually removed the products about 4 months later. Honestly if I were to go back in time I would opt for the ERPC sooner. I was really unlucky and it didn’t work for me but I think that’s quite rare. I found the process of having the procedure much easier than taking the medication and waiting around (because you are asleep) and the recovery really isn’t that bad!
Have the EPU given you any options so far? I’m so sorry that this is happening to you, and especially over Christmas 😔

Hey @vjb39 xx I was initially in contact with my nearest EPU, like a 10 minute drive from me about a fortnight ago, they've now closed until the 6th of January. So I've got an appointment on Wednesday in the coming week to scan me. I have a clot of blood at the top of my cervix and a collapsed 3 week old sac. The hope is that it all comes out over the next day or two. Even if it does, I still have to get seen at the EPU. Hopefully not surgical management as it was such an early loss. We shall see.

4 months 😮 (!!) I'm very glad you got it all resolved in the end xx

@vjb39 I had an appointment at the EPU/EPAU whatever it is, today. They saw no sac this time and I passed something yesterday which I suspected was the sac. I still have clots to pass and they were happy for me to check back in after 2 weeks. They are confident by body will pass it all on its own, which is a relief.
