I think I’m losing this baby

I’m 6w 5d well I should be anyway

yesterday I was stood up at work and I felt wet, not anything major but I knew something was happening. I went to the loo and wiped and there was brown blood - quite a bit as in it took a few wipes to stop. I checked about 1-2 hours after and it was still happening but only when I wiped and not getting worse

when I got home at around 6/7pm I decided to put a pad in just so I could monitor what was happening. As soon as I put the pad in I had a period like bleed with clots.

i decided to have a bath and try to calm down but also accepting that this isn’t good news at all and I’m more probably having a miscarriage. I kept a pad on overnight and woke up this morning to a completely clean pad. But again when I went to the loo and had a wee and wiped there was a fairly large amount of browny coloured blood

obviously being so early on the pregnancy unit won’t see me - I’ve got to wait until tomorrow when the EPU opens. I’m in actual hell trying to think of every possible reason for this bleeding but the most obvious one is the one I’ve been dreading the most 😞

I haven’t had any cramping like I’d expect with a miscarriage and I thought seeing as it’s been nearly 20 hours that if it was a miscarriage it’d surely be getting much heavier?

I'm sorry you're going through this. Obviously there's no way of knowing for sure what's going on, I hope things don't get worse for you. Sending solidarity.

Farmgirl12 · 16/04/2023 15:36

I had a miscarriage last year, and it was bright red blood like a period and it lasted 2 weeks. It was full pad after full pad. I know everyone is different, but yours doesn’t sound like a mc. I had terrible pain too

I hope this is just your body getting used to being pregnant and things changing.

fingers crossed I hope you find out in the next few days either way.

Kentlassie · 16/04/2023 15:40

My mc was bright red blood and lots of it. Lots of clots. In a previous pregnancy I had brown coloured bleeding early on and all was fine. Hope things work out ok for you.

TheShellBeach · 16/04/2023 15:40

Hi OP. Sorry this is happening to you.
Many women bleed on and off throughout their pregnancies, and the baby is fine.
Obviously without a scan, you won't know, but I wanted to give you some hope. I bled in one of mine, and she was 30 last week.
So it isn't always bad news.

PauseTheRain · 16/04/2023 15:46

OP, hope everything works out well. I've had three miscarriages - all had bright red blood. I hope it's good news for you tomorrow.

Tryingtobe123 · 16/04/2023 16:07

Thanks everyone. The bleeding has got much heavier with clots falling out of me when I go to the loo (sorry I’m tmi)

I just want to get confirmation that it’s ended so that I can mentally move on from this

Hey @Tryingtobe123 . Sorry you're going through this. I'm currently going through very similar! Meant to be about 7 weeks, but had brownish blood about 4 days ago, which has progressed to red blood with clots in. Weirdly though (and yours sounds a bit similar to mine), it seems a bit stop and start? A couple of nights I've put a pad in and no bleeding at all, yet when I go to the toilet there's loads of blood and clots to wipe away. I just want to get this over and done with, but seems to be happening very slowly.

Thinking of you. Please let us know how you get on.

Tryingtobe123 · 16/04/2023 17:10

@KokoNights aw I’m so sorry you’re going through the same it’s horrible. Yes mine started like that, brown blood, then red blood, then small clots and now big cloths and lots of bleeding. We’ve got this xxxx

Ah that's so shit.

I have had a few miscarriages and they were similar to how you have mentioned.

I have also bled and had a successful
Pregnancy but it was brown blood on and off for a couple of days and then bright red blood, but not a lot of it and no clots etc.

Have you tried taking another pregnancy test? My lines faded pretty quickly when it was a miscarriage.

thimblewomgee247 · 16/04/2023 20:28

Are you having any pain. If not there is hood

thimblewomgee247 · 16/04/2023 20:29

I had heavy heavy bleeds with clots but no pain. It was a hematoma.

greyberry · 16/04/2023 20:45

So sorry you're going through this Flowers

When I was miscarrying it was bright red bleeding with some big clots, enough to fill several pads. I also had very bad cramps and back pain, it felt like the first contraction pains I had when in labour with DD so that's when I knew it was being 'pushed out' almost.

When I called EPU in the midst of the bleeding they advised a warm bath, hot water bottle and paracetamol, although that might not be so helpful if you haven't got much pain. I would hope that no pain is a hopeful sign, fingers crossed for you.

If you feel that the bleeding is getting heavier or the clots are very big I would give 111 a call even just for advice.

rainbowssky · 16/04/2023 20:50

Op I've lost 2.

I researched like mad when I had my first mc and found it's different for everyone. There were women like you who lost their baby and others who had healthy babies.

Handhold from me and thinking of you, prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

Tryingtobe123 · 16/04/2023 22:08

No serious pain (maybe slight niggles) but passed quite large clots this afternoon. As soon as EPU opens tomorrow I’m going to call and get clarification. I have a gut feeling it’s what I think it is but I’m at peace with that now. What will be will be

Did you manage to talk to the EPU yet? I've got an appointment this afternoon but feel sick to my stomach. Even though I think I know what they'll say, it's having to do the scan and face up to reality which is horrible!

I have just had a miscarriage at 10 weeks with very heavy blood loss to the point of wondering about going to A&E. The surprising thing is the lack of pain. Only a few cramps when I passed the baby. Same with an earlier miscarriage. Some can miscarry without pain. I don't know if having two children helped in that way.

Hopefully it is good news for the OP though.

Sounds similar to my experience. Just slight niggles. I just went in with the mantra "expect the worst, hope for the best".

Sadly this was my experience as well - I was grateful for, but confused by, the lack of pain. It was uncomfortable but never escalated to painful. I also wondered if having had a baby before might have had something to do with this. I did have a very painful few hours a couple of days after the miscarriage had actually happened, which I think was the uterus suddenly contracting.

I truly hope the OP is not the same as us though. Thinking of you OP.

Tryingtobe123 · 17/04/2023 14:25

I’m just so confused. I’ve got a scan booked for tomorrow now which is a relief to know what’s happening. I passed around 2 clots yesterday. Neither seemed massive or hard just like gooey blood. I’m still bleeding but bright red/watery. Like a very very very light period. Could the 2 clots I bled out yesterday be it?! Could it just be done from those 2?! Thought there’d maybe be more tissue like stuff in there 😵‍💫

I just want closure now to know whether I can move on!

@KokoNights have you had your appointment? Got everything crossed for you xxx

OP posts:
KokoNights · 17/04/2023 15:55

@Tryingtobe123 Thanks for your support.
It was bad news unfortunately. I wasn't surprised at all, but it feels like a slap in the face nonetheless! They want to see if it continues naturally, then re-scan in 2 weeks.
I can't say that I've experienced anything seriously painful (more like normal period cramps) or passed anything particularly big, so like you, I'm just waiting.....

Good luck at your appointment. Will be thinking of you? Xx

Tryingtobe123 · 17/04/2023 16:48

@KokoNights aw I’m so sorry hope you’re okay, I have a definite feeling it’ll be the same outcome for me tomorrow. Had my bloody dating scan letter come through today too so had made me feel even worse. Will you try again when you can? I’m so torn in the sense of I never want to go through this again but also we do want another one

OP posts:
KokoNights · 17/04/2023 17:47

@Tryingtobe123 - ugh that's not ideal timing!
This was my second miscarriage in less than a year (the previous one had developed to about 10 weeks and was a missed miscarriage with surgery so different experience). So on one hand, I want to wait at least 6 months as I can't keep putting myself through this. On the other hand, I have no living children and my biological clock is ticking away. So I feel there are no good options right now.

I think give yourself time to physically heal and then see how you feel emotionally.

Tryingtobe123 · 18/04/2023 08:15

@KokoNights oh sorry you’re having to go through it all again! It’s so bloody difficult isn’t it. I’ve got my appointment today at 12:30 and I’m just dreading it as I’m having to go by myself which makes it feel so much worse
