Hi ladies,
Just my story to balance the horror stories you hear. I recently had a bleed at 7+4 and was diagnosed by my EPU with having early embryonic demise (ie no embryo but typically growing sac, placenta etc)
I took mifepristone (nothing happened for me after this at all) and misiprostone 48 hours later vaginally.
I started to bleed with large, slimy clots around 2pm (4hours later) with absolutely no pain. Nothing excessive, but every time I went to the toilet there was a gush.
From around 4pm online. I started to feel very regular period cramps and the same bleeding as before. These increased in intensity until about 7 pm when I felt a real “gear change” in the cramps which began very much to feel like early labour pains 1-4cm maybe. Not unbearable but sore and made me keel over. I don’t know how many of you have been pregnant before but I immediately feel like I needed to be naked when this started just like in the birth of my son.
I paced the house, bent down, groaning, lay down, rocked and the pain was sometime easier, sometimes worse. I took paracetamol and codeine. Eventually at 11:50 I started to feel a pressure and like the pain was really bad and I told me partner “I can’t do this” and started to cry a little bit and then I ran to the toilet and had a big gush and the pain was gone IMEMEDIATELY!!
Since that moment I’ve felt fine, still bleeding like a heavy period but no pain.
So for those who are anxious choosing medical management of a termination, my experience has been really positive. It is painful, in short bursts, particularly just at the end but with painkillers, support and moving around it is totally doable.
