Very slow and dropping hcg 10 weeks after miscarriage — anyone with similar experience?

Hi all,

I found out 10 weeks ago I’d had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks pregnant. I had medical management which didn’t help to properly work so after 4 weeks of waiting I had surgical management.

It’s now been 6 weeks since my D&C and I had a negative test 3 weeks ago. I tested with a digital test that detected a level of 10. I started tracking my ovulation and it did seem like I ovulated based on oks and a temp rise.

A week after this I did a first response test and it was a very faint positive.. seemed too soon after ovulation to be a new pregnancy but I continued to test and the faint positive stayed and the line never faded or got stronger.

I then got a blood test a week after doing to first home test and it came back as 21.

I’m now 19 dpo and no period and am certain I’m not pregnant as 21 is too low for a new and viable pregnancy.

I think my hcg must have been around 20 for weeks as otherwise why would I have had a negative test 3 weeks ago?

I’m getting a retest next week but does anyone have experience with the last bit of hcg taking ages to go. If so what happened?

Thanks!

I had a D&C on 2nd November and I was still getting a faint positive on a first response 7 weeks after it was extremely infuriating to see the line coming up. I gave up testing after that as about 4 days later I started bleeding so assumed it must have been negative enough to bleed

Thanks @mummatara, sorry to hear about your loss but really reassuring to know that I’m not the only one with these never ending positive tests. I’m really hoping I get my period soon. It’s really strange because I had a huge temp increase a few weeks ago and a huge drop again about a week ago and yet no bleeding..

Have you been tracking your cycle since you got your period?

@stardust1994 it's def nice to know you are not alone it can feel never ending 😩 I tested throughout I also had a temp rise and drop but the drop was a good 11 days before AF showed I got excited that she was imminent but she kept me waiting 🙄 I ovulated on CD12 which is a little early for me im usually CD16/17 but I do have random cycles where it's earlier or later so currently on 2dpo. A couple of ladies I'm on a TTC group with got positives for a long time too with no reason for it

That’s so helpful to know. My big temp drop was 3 days ago so hopefully it won’t be too much longer 😊my cycles have been non-existent so don’t really know what to expect 😅

Will this be your first @mummatara? Hope you get you bfp this month!

@stardust1994 ooh I hope she shows soon for you 🤞🏼 this is my first cycle I'm equally dreading and hoping at the same time 🙈

Fingers crossed! Do you have kids already @mummatara?

@stardust1994 yes I have a DS who is almost 2. Then we fell pregnant in March and had a MMC surgery in June I fell again the cycle after so July which was another MMC confirmed in sept but I opted to wait for nature and it didn't happen so by the time I waited and had blood tests and more scans it was the beginning of Nov 🙈 this last MC has dragged so much I wish I hadn't of tried to wait for nature and just gone for the surgery but hindsight is great 🙄 do you have any?

stardust1994 · 02/01/2023 20:16

@mummatara no, I don’t have any kids yet. I’m 28 and stopped the pill a year ago to try and conceive but never got my period back so the pregnancy was a very happy surprise.

Quite nervous about what will happen next now 😬and terrified about having another miscarriage as don’t have the best history with periods and what not.

I had loads of tests to see what was causing the lack of periods and everything came back completely fine.. so strange!

I regret trying the medical management before the surgery. Really not nice and didn’t fully work anyway!

@stardust1994 oh wow a year you must of been thinking the absolute worst. I'm glad the tests are clear though. Are you tracking ovulation other than temping? I think once you've had a loss it's so hard to remain positive but youve just got to keep telling yourself every pregnancy is different. I had different early symptoms for all of my pregnancies which I found so odd. I never even considered opting for medical management after speaking to many ladies on here it's so common for it not to work and they end up with surgery anyway I often wonder why they bother giving it as an option 🤦🏼‍♀️

stardust1994 · 02/01/2023 22:25

@mummatara, yeah to be honest I was just so terrified about the whole scarring thing with the surgery that I went with the medical option. No one told me how high the failure rate is.

Yeah before the blood tests I was genuinely worried I was going through some sort of ridiculously early menopause 🤣

Yep! So I bought some opks back in August to use when my period came back. I tried one out at the end of Sept and was shocked that it was positive so obviously had sex and that led to the pregnancy. Such a strange coincidence!

Have used them since the D&C and they said I ovulated on 13th December and my temps confirmed it but still no period 3 weeks on so now I’m questioning it. Don’t think a luteal phase can be that long. I’ve had on and off cramping ever since the D&C.

To be honest if af doesn’t show up soon I’ll consider a private gynaecologist because I’m fed up of it all now. Annoyingly I had an nhs referral but they closed it after the pregnancy despite the miscarriage as said it proved I could conceive.
