Bleeding again 24 days after miscarriage. Is this my period?

Miscarried 24 days ago and continued to bleed somewhat lightly for 2 weeks. Now just over a week after the bleeding has stopped it's started again. It's very light. Could this be my period or is it a cause for concern?

Have you had a negative Pregnancy test since your miscarriage? I'd do one and if it's still positive, ring your EPU. if it's negative, it's likely your period. Mine came quite quickly after miscarriage

RestIsBest · 27/07/2022 18:19

@ZoeQ90 Yes I tested negative. I called EPU and they said extremely unlikely it's my period and will be spotting of what's left. Yet I'm still bleeding now and it's actually a medium flow now. I don't know how to get confirmation if this is my period because I'm desperate for us to TTC at the first available chance

Hey, I'm sorry you're finding yourself here, but this exact same thing happened to me recently, I was sure it couldn't be my period because all the info says it wont be until 4-6weeks after. I'm having IVF so in readiness for the next cycle had another internal ultrasound which showed nothing retained, and it was just my body getting back to 'normal'. I think it just happens this way for a small number of us, but might be worth waiting until your next period (mine cycle was about 32 days after, and this month looking to be about 30, so settling down) and seeing how that is? X

I had a period fairly quickly after both my miscarriages. I remember being concerned and I called my GP just for advice. So I'd say call your GP for advice. Sorry you are going through this. It's awful.

ZoeQ90 · 27/07/2022 18:51

If you've tested negative, there's actually no need to wait to try again. That's what I was told.

RestIsBest · 27/07/2022 20:14

@beckyCarlos So if nothing was retained, did they confirm that the bleeding was in fact your period? I feel convinced it is but she seemed adamant it couldn't be. And I've been told not to TTC until at least after first period (I assume this it to confirm dates). Really feel in limbo

They can't really confirm if it is your period, but I know that while I was spotting from the miscarriage I also had some EWCM and a positive OPK so it must have been. I cant compare the flow to my normal because I was still using pads and not tampons, but I think it was about the same, a bit lighter maybe x

Sorry to hear what you’re going through, I feel your pain as I’m also going through something similar. I bled every day for 8 weeks during my miscarriage starting mid May (after 2 doses of misoprostal and and MVA). I finally stopped bleeding, had a negative test and then had an all clear scan 11 days ago. But after 1 week of no bleeding it started again on Saturday, but very light and the blood is almost black (I assume old blood) and not period like.

I was told my next period may be heavier, but not lighter, so I don’t know if this is my period. Also I’ve been doing the ovulation strips every day for the last 4 weeks and no ovulation. But if it’s not my period it’s now been going on for 6 days. I just want my body to go back to normal.

@Natpat81 Sorry to hear of your situation. It's awful not knowing what is actually going on. EPU told me 5 days ago it would be spotting left over but this is what my period would be like, nothing close to spotting. I was also told my first period would be heavy, but then my doctor also told me that my expectant miscarriage would be similar to the experience of contractions when giving birth and fortunately it was nothing like that. I'm hoping the bleeding will come to an end in the next few days and then I'll start using OPK's. If I don't seem to ovulate I'm going to be so confused as to what this is right now. I wonder if I were to see a gynaecologist privately, if they could do anymore scans/tests and tell me what exactly is going on in. Hang in there, I'm hoping better days are coming for all of us

@RestIsBest thanks for your reply, how are you doing now? It’s helpful to hear from somebody going through something similar although I’m sorry that you are.
I think my bleeding has stopped now after a week so maybe it was some kind of odd period.
Yeah I’ve wondered what kind of tests/scans are available but I had assumed it wouldn’t be that easy to find out as some people just take more time for their body to go back to normal.
hope things improve and you find out what’s going on!

restisbest · 30/07/2022 19:53

@Natpat81 the bleeding got heavier so I called EPU and she said there's a good chance it is my period and I was misadvised when I last called. She said if it continues to be heavier for the next few days then they will scan me. But I think it's going to slowly come to an end now. Also I had a negative pregnancy test a couple of weeks ago so I'm confident this is my period.
