HCG levels rising after bleed - what to expect :(

Hoping for help with a horrible question :(

So I experienced bleeding at 5 weeks pregnancy last week - had two HCG blood tests which came back at 39 then 31, so I assumed that was that and I had miscarried my desperately wanted baby.

Bleeding was heavy and lasted 3 days, followed up by a third blood test a few days later - however this one came back at 48!

To be clear I’m expecting a negative outcome but just unsure what to expect (hospital won’t give any advice even when asked - just say they’ll repeat bloods in a week). Could this be ectopic? Am I likely to bleed again but more heavily? Will I need surgery?

Just want the nightmare to end at this point :( was trying very hard for a baby and want to start TTC ASAP but this makes the whole thing makes it so much worse.

Any advice/similar stories greatly appreciated!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I haven't been through similar but from what I've read, I think you are right to be braced for bad news. There is a slim chance it all is fine but honestly I had to ignore that whilst I was waiting for confirmation as it was driving me mad. I had my miscarriage confirmed at 10 weeks, I got a negative pregnancy test two weeks later and my period a week after that so was able to start trying again soon after.
