4th loss - Chemical pregnancy

Hi All,

Hoping for some advice or someone to relate to.

We have been ttc our second child for 2 years. I had 2 early miscarriages at around 5 and a half weeks in 2020. I class them as miscarriages as there was a lot of pain and I bled for 2 weeks with both of them. It also took 2/3 weeks for my hcg to come down.

Following that I had a mmc last year at around 8 and half weeks, I had a d&c and after testing it turned out to be a partial molar. Once I was given the all clear a few months later I had testing for reoccurring miscarriage which included bloods and a scan. The results were given to me very vaguely over a telephone appointment, all I know is everything was clear but I don’t actually know specifically what I was tested for.

They said if I was to fall pregnant again they would prescribe aspirin & progesterone, just because ‘it wouldn’t hurt’

Last week I got a positive test at home after 9 months trying, the longest it’s ever taken. A urine test at the doctors also confirmed the pregnancy. I called my consultant straight away and left a message with her secretary regarding the aspirin and progesterone, but never heard back from her and have since lost the pregnancy.

I don’t know if the aspirin & progesterone would have saved this pregnancy, it all happened so soon, I believe it was a chemical as I had no pain and only bled for 3 days like a normal period, so different to the first 2.

I’m just looking for any similar stories regarding the early losses? Also anyone advised to take aspirin, how did you get it and when did you start taking it? Lastly is there anyone who has suffered multiple losses who went on to conceive without aid?

I don’t know what to do, keep trying or push for more testing?

My ttc and pregnancy journey with my son was text book so other than my age I don’t know what’s changed.

Hello, so sorry to hear what you are going through. It's sounds so tough.

After 3 losses myself, also following a straightforward pregnancy, I was able to get the progesterone in advance. Is this something your consultant would do?

I then started it along with the aspirin as soon as I got a positive test. Not a success story as yet but I'm currently passed the point of my furthest along miscarriage.

@Pineapplewanderer Thanks so much for the reply. It’s tough and completely unexpected isn’t it? I’m still in shock that this is my life 2 years later, but plenty of hope and strength left in me.

How amazing to hear that the progesterone and aspirin might work for you this time around. Did you have a diagnosis that lead to being prescribed them or was it more it’s worth a try?

I feel really let down by my hospital that they never got back to me, I’d even chased them up. I think having the meds prior like you would be a bit more comforting if we fall pregnant again. It just makes sense doesn’t it, I’ll keep on at them and if they don’t get back to me I’ll try my GP.

With me not having a specific diagnosis I didn’t want to put all my hope into the meds but it’s better than sitting here wondering what if!

No, no diagnosis, just something to try. I'll never know if they've helped me get this far or if it was just down to luck.

It's awful they've never got back to you!

@Pineapplewanderer I’m so glad you jumped on this post. I feel like you’ve boosted my hope and given me a plan as I was feeling pretty lost on how to move forward this morning, so thank you! And best of luck!
