99% sure I've miscarried but doctor THINKS I haven't?!

I am very surprised by this as is my partner and interested if others have experienced similar.

I am very sure I miscarried, starting at 8 weeks. Lots of bleeding, had contractions that increased over 24h, peaking over a few hours and increasing to every 2 mins at one point. Passed a handful of BIG clots, one as big as a golf ball. Lots more blood than a period.

Community midwife told me to test two weeks after mc started and if positive to ring them. Tested and was quite surprised as got a strong positive. Expected v faint or nothing. Rang them up and as of 1 March community midwife line has shut down...

Instead I rang my GP. Lovely friendly man. He said it is unusual but he thinks I'm still pregnant?? Thought I hadn't emphasised enough so mentioned again about the big clots and he said again he thinks I'm still pregnant and to get a scan and test again tomorrow.

Wasn't surprised about the scan bit as I know there can be remaining tissue. Thought he would say possibly remaining tissue or maybe hcg slow to decrease.

Rang EPU and they said the recommend to do a test 3 weeks after mc and to ring back in a week if still positive. Very much the response I expected.

Anyone else think my GP is barmy? I have no false hope at all about this and I'm quite shocked that he was so positive about it.

I have attached the test for reference. Wasn't FMU was afternoon as I forgot so just didn't drink much for a couple of hours.

Really interested in people's thoughts on this.
Thank you x

@Readytopop2022x my mw reassured me when I was bleeding a little with this one but like you I also knew.

I appreciate that healthcare professionals don't see every symptom like we do and go off what they see in the average person.

And sorry for your mc Thanks

You'll likely wait a few months to be seen. You could get the same tests done quicker privately. None of this means you have to TTC immediately, I took a break too after my third loss, it was just extremely draining in every sense of the word.

What you've described might indicate a clotting issue. I was on baby aspirin from positive test till 36 weeks and I have my beautiful son now. Also progesterone till 12 weeks. Be mindful even if tests show nothing, you might have clotting issues developing in pregnancy which no one checks for. So I'd definitely have a detailed discussion about baby aspirin or other thinners with your consultant depending on your results. Also as soon as you're pregnant and under RMC care, request a referral to perinatal MH team - I wish I had pressed for this, big regret in hindsight. It's crazy women like us are not referred to as standard tbh.

There could of course be other reasons too. You're in a good crowd here on MN, between us we can probably help out with anything related to recurrent MC.

Also, if you go sooner and it is a MC, I'd request genetic testing of the retained products. This might identify the cause of your potential 3rd MC which will help with any future investigations. You'd need to have an MVA/D&C/medical management in hospital for this to be an option, if you MC at home, testing might not be possible or might not return a result. xx

Can you get yourself booked in for an early private scan? If not, id honestly wait a couple of days and take a clear blue digital. I started bleeding, and 2 days later I got the BFN! Was so heartbreaking, but glad I knew sooner instead of the two week wait! really sorry you're having to go through this! My heart goes out to you xx

It definitely can happen, I bled so much, I can't even describe how much! ( I think at 7/8 weeks) that I had ended up in a & e, the local doctor presumed I had miscarried, but they did a (very) internal scan in the local hospital and sure enough I was still pregnant. She's now 6. I miscarried before and after that pregnancy and somehow bled less. I would personally just go private and get a scan just so you can know either way.

I kept my last three babies with preds, clexane and progesterone (I have four babies now and had four losses…it was defo the meds as I tried without stupidly before my last baby and I miscarried again… I had a private prescription but managed to persuade nhs to fund for last two). So so grateful for that medication as i felt at one point there was no hope…and would spend hours googling looking for hope. I really hope you are ok x

I hope it isn't a miscarriage. But perhaps worth my two cents - took me 9 weeks to test negative after MMC surgery. So I wouldn't take a positive test as meaning it isn't. Best of luck at scan x

You're not stupid at all for trying without, especially due to the NHS advice of "people can have 1/2 even 3 miscarriages and go on to have a healthy baby".

So glad you found drugs that helped the situation.

how did things go @Februarybluee ?

I am very early on in pregnancy i think around 3/4 weeks. I woke up to some blood in my panties and immediately panicked thinking its a miscarriage. Me and my husband rushed to A and E. They took my bloods and a urine sample. ( i was still bleeding but like a light period with mild cramping). The docs said the urine sample showed a positive pregnancy test but because of the vleeding they wanted to examine me further. So they checked if my cervix wall was open or close ( and it was indeed closed) so the doc told me its looking good and a miscarriage is very unlikely. Then they told me to do an ultrasound and they couldnt see anything. They took my bloods again and rang me later that day telling me i had low HCG and it looks like ive had a miscarriage ?? Its been a few days now i HAVE Barely ANY BLEEDING and still the same pregnancy symptoms?? I feel like ive been misdiagnoaed with a miscarriage when im still pregnant??
