Recurrent miscarriage referral

Hi all, i spoke to my doctor this week and I have been referred as have had 4 early losses in total. I do have a 21 month old son but he was a twin.

What can I expect? Long waiting times etc?

Im not sure whether to go private and if anyone has any recommendations private or nhs for Essex/London area.

Im 36 in April so keen to try asap. But if its something simple like taking a baby aspirin, should I risk trying now and request aspirin from gp asap or wait until I am referred to make sure nothing is wrong. I do fall pregnant quickly so I am unsure what to do. I had an erpc last month for my latest loss.

Thanks xx

Ladies it's interesting reading your journeys.

I'm experiencing a mmc currently after a very long time ttc.

I feel I need to ask for help now so will approach nhs this week. I have low iron too and I hope it hasn't contributed to my mmc.

What is the aspirin for?

Laura0729 · 14/02/2022 14:33

Hadn't finished

@DarkCorner that's so inspiring to hear to have your second congratulations.

@Hayley220 I feel the same I don't want to neglect time with ds but this hurts so muc and it's all I can think about.

@Laura0729 i asked my gp about the low dose aspirin and she advised me against it because of my low iron. I do feel i need to speak with a private doctor, just not sure i want to spend the £ and wonder if i should give it another try first. Its hard to know what to do isnt it. How low is your iron, are you on supplements? I have sodium feredetate (liquid iron) as tablets didnt agree with me x

I had 3 missed miscarriages last year 7 weeks 8 weeks and 9 weeks all had a heart beat at 6 weeks
I was referred to recurrent miscarriage unit I didn't wait long you can ask you gp to refer to any hospital you wish

2 of the pregnancy were tested after the d&c's the results were 1 had t13 and the 2nd one had t21

I was put on aspirin and progesterone I used in my last pregnancy and still lost the baby

Recurrent miscarriage run all tests on myself and my partner and we both come back normal we both have children so I'm thinking it's possibly my age

Ive just found out im pregnant again and really worried this is going to happen again

Really struggling today. I did Nct with my son who is now 22 months, another one from the group has just announced the gender of her next baby - the same time i would have been announcing mine as I guess would have been over half way now. Its so hard isnt it, other peoples happiness shouldnt affect me but it does when you want it so much.

I rang the hospital i have been referred to and they said the wait is more like 18 weeks but i am not sure what to believe, either way its too long. I have looked into private testing and the places I have found its more into the thousands so I have to decide whether to give it another go or spend the money. Is it worth risking another try before being seen by a specialist? Baring in mind 2 miscarriages, 1 chemical and my son was a twin. Or would you go private first?

I'm not in your shoes @Hayley220 but I was about 4y ago. One DD, 3 early losses within about a year, unsure as to how to proceed. I was 40. The recurrent m/c referral was 18 weeks but actually came through about 10 weeks in. I hope yours does too.

However!

I conceived DS1 a week after the third loss, ironically unintentionally as I was really cautious because it was 12 weeks before our wedding and I just couldn't face yet another loss in the run up. Midwife relative advised baby aspirin. Apart from GD, the little bugger was the easiest pregnancy going apart from horrible anxiety.

Cancelled the clinic, obvs, and my midwife said she just felt it was normal to experience losses when ttc at my age, with early testing just making it more obvious.

I say DS1 as DS2 unexpectedly arrived 20m after his brother after a one off slip. GD again but otherwise utterly textbook.

@RinklyRomaine thanks for the reply! My doctor told me not to take a low dose aspirin as i have low iron (which im supplementing for though) as much as I get she is a doctor she isnt a “specialist” so I really wanted to speak to someone about this at a fertility clinic. The low does aspirin was my bit of hope!

I cant seem to find a clinic thats under £1350-2000 for the tests/scan/consultation privately. I dont think I can spend this.. but would be kicking myself if i had another miscarriage and it could be avoided.

I am having a terrible terrible day today.. periods due (3rd post erpc) and i am so emotional. Im not getting on with my husband. He even said something in front of the family that really really hurt sunday. His sister has 3 daughters and she said she likes to do things separately with them, for example taking the 8 year old to see a show in london, i said what a lovely thing to do. His response was what will our son want to do with me on his own when he is 8.. as though he wont want to have a day with his Mum. This has really upset me, I have always been so happy to be a boy Mum. His sister then kept on saying how she wants a 4th child and they all want a brother. She has no idea I have had a few losses. She is 40 and her husband is 44.. it shouldnt upset me how they are so lucky and fertile to have 3 healthy kids and so freely talk about adding to their team so easily, but it really does. Today isnt a good day!
