Change period blood consistency after MMC

Hi, I've had 2 MMC's and after the first I noticed a change in my period, I thought it might go back to "normal" after the second but it's still the same.

Basically the consistency of my period is different to what it was before both the MMC's - it's bright red blood mixed with lots of slippy clear discharge. It took me nearly a year to conceive again after the first MMC and I'm worried this change in my period could be why.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it something I should get looked at?

I told my GP about it after my first MMC but they didn't seem all that bothered.

TIA x

I'm really sorry you've had this happen to you twice, that's awful.

I did, mine was as you describe, a slippery brighter pinky red almost. I had spotting for two day before my period also. GP didn't seem to care, just said it takes 6-9 months to normalise after a miscarriage. I actually had acupuncture, and my first period was painful, heavy, clotted, and dark red and brown - really awful. Was worried as I thought it was meant to improve things. The next cycle, I was pregnant. I really feel it helped me and I should have tried it sooner

Hi @WildflowerPetals, didn't want to read and run, I had a MC in August and just had my period (just two days late, thanks AF...) and while I don't have any insight, mine was exactly the same as you describe.

Not ready to TTC again yet but just wanted to say mine is the same so you don't feel it's just you! x

Thank you both for replying!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 It's so frustrating how GP's just fob us off after MC's. Ooh that's interesting about the acupuncture. I've looked into it before but never booked anything in - I might try it next cycle and see if it makes a difference x

@SunAndSea37 Thank you, I really appreciate you responding. Hope you're doing okay x

@WildflowerPetals it is bad, I called them after six months as things were not back to normal for me (and I'm over 35). They could not have cared less, said it's normal for hormones to be out, and to come back if it's been over a year of trying since the mc.

I was sceptical on the acupuncture but started a thread before on it, and people had a lot of good things to say. Two sessions in, I had that awful period, two sessions later I got pregnant. Interestingly at my consult, they spent a lot of time asking about colour, consistency etc of my blood post miscarriage, and said it seems a common hormone imbalance in women they treat post miscarriage. I also took pomegranate extract (in the Zita West ttc vitamins) which is meant to improve and thicken lining for proper implantation. I'm pregnant currently but if it doesn't work out, I'll go straight back to acupuncture.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 That's shocking, I thought they were supposed to do more if you're 35+. I didn't get any help after my first MC but luckily after my second I spoke to a lovely GP who was happy to do bloods and referred me to the recurrent MC clinic. Unfortunately the referral got rejected (As I haven't had 3 MC's) and that GP has now left the surgery so I'm in the dark again. My bloods did show some abnormalities though so hopefully next pregnancy will be different.

I think I'll definitely give acupuncture a try! What did you ask for when you booked your appointment? Is it acupuncture for fertility?

Hope your pregnancy is going well, I wish you all the luck x

@WildflowerPetals according to my GP because I got pregnant very quickly, we don't have any issues 🙄 and according to her it can be hard after a missed miscarriage because of hormone imbalances. So she said any time I miscarried it would reset the clock for when I could get help. I can't think this can't be right. And it's horrible to me that after your two miscarriages in a row you can't get any help. I can't believe your referral got rejected.

I live in London so used a fertility acupuncturist near my work - she had great reviews from a lot of women who she helped get pregnant, and stay pregnant. I went to her 2x a month through the first trimester also, to try and help the pregnancy stick. I'm 20 weeks now, but still pretty scared of scans etc.

If they've fixed something in your bloods also, that's good and hopefully will be good for next time 🤞 Has the GP said whether something like low dose aspirin might help you?

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'll never understand why some GP's are so unwilling to help, I tried to get help after we'd been trying for a year after my 1st MC and the doctor basically just read the NICE guidelines to me like I was stupid. I've been told similar about the clock resetting, after my second I asked if it made a difference that we'd tried for a year and the doctor said that because I'd fallen pregnant, even though I'd MC'd again, I'd have to wait another year. It's so frustrating when you know more could be being done!

I live in Sheffield so I'll have a look if anyone round me specialises in fertility acupuncture 😊

My bloods showed I have Factor V Leiden gene mutation which is a blood clotting disorder, I've been referred to Haematology and have an appointment next month so hopefully they'll be able to advise me. I'm assuming they'll suggest taking baby aspirin. I'm in my luteal phase now so I've started taking baby aspirin as I've heard it can help with implantation 🤞🏼

@WildflowerPetals I'm so sorry your GP reset the clock for you as well. That seems especially mean, with a year trying in-between. Good luck for your appointment. Have heard lots of good things about baby aspirin in the meantime. I'm on it but for something else that was picked up at my midwife appointment

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Thank you, and thanks for your help. Hope all goes well for you with your pregnancy x
