query re use of aspirin first trimester after two consecutive miscarriages

Hi there, ive recently found out im pregnant again after two miscarriages. Im on progesterone pessaries and the gp has prescribed Aspirin but basically only because i pushed for it, he (and a consultant he discussed it with) said there was no indication i need to take it, no risk factors and no known blood clotting disorder. Got pregnant before i could get tests for aps etc done. Ive read conflicting advice on Aspirin, in particular that it can actually be harmful to take in first trimester if no known blood clotting disorder. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this type of situation and what you have been told by gp/consultant etc.

Thank you for your help xx

Possibly because I had a late loss. At my scan my consultant has put me on 400 progesterone daily and a daily low dose aspirin. She said she only puts women on it from 12 weeks not before.

Hi @Scattykatty , just wondering how you’re pregnancy is progressing ? Hope all going well with the progesterone and aspirin.

@Sadgirl28 Any luck on the ttc front ? Im 4DPO today first cycle after my mc..anxiously waiting with the 2 boxes of baby asprin ready 😂

Hi @slk3558! Sorry am so bad at keeping up with threads!! I decided against taking Aspirin after reading up on it more and testing negative for sticky blood. I am however taking progestrone twice daily. Im currently ca 9.5 weeks, last scan on Monday showed everything fine! I have had a bit of bleeding that started at week 6 and was originally attributed to a small subchorionic haematoma but latest scan couldn't see it which is good! However bleeding after miscarriages is not the most relaxing experience 😭😭😭 but have had quite a few scans where everything is looking as it should. ive never got to 9+ weeks before with a heartbeat confirmed. Obviously still not out of the risk zone, but trying to stay positive
:))) xx

@Slk3558 hey , I am trying again now , on cycle 2 after my early misscarrige Smile I am just waiting for ovulation , and good luck to you for your two week wait so scary and exiting !!!

Slk3558 · 31/03/2021 17:02

@Skattycatty123 that’s fantastic news. So either progesterone worked for you or it was just not meant to be with the other two. Either way it’s great news and wishing you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy.

@Sadgirl28 glad to hear you back into the swing . It’s amazing how quickly our bodies bounce back isn’t it?! Thanks will update on 10 dpo lol.

@Skattycatty123 Hi, no I didn’t ..do you have it?

@Sadgirl28 @Skattycatty123 I said I’d update on 10 dpo.. stark white BFN on frer. Got pregnant first cycle after my first MC so was half thinking might happen again but looks like not my month! X

Sadgirl28 · 06/04/2021 11:42

@Slk3558 awww what a bummer !!!! :( I know exactly how it feels to get negatives all the time , drives me nuts :( well you’re not out yet until your cycle starts again ? Maybe late implantation ? How long is your luteal phase ? If it’s 14 days then 10 dpo is still early , good luck xxx

Skattycatty123 · 06/04/2021 16:49

@Skattycatty123 thank you will definitely read up, did you just show this to your GP?

@Sadgirl28 @Skattycatty123 Started spotting today and temp has plummeted to cover line so AF has arrived. That means I had a leutal phase of 11 days if I include today spotting as AF. Not very happy with that as all the vitamins I thought had extended my leutal phase to get a BFP (previously had a leutal phase of 10 days before got first BFP). But seems not much progress has been made - I was all about asprin a few weeks ago when I thought my progesterone levels were fine - now I’m starting to worry if low progesterone is the underlying issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated xx

Skattycatty123 · 08/04/2021 14:46

@Slk3558 i read through the info and then found another leaflet (wouldn't let me send it as its a pdf not a link) but link to pdf is in page i posted and sent them that. All i would say is gp had to check with gynecology before prescribing me and that took a couple of weeks, so i would call in good time so that once you have your bfp you can start it from that day. Have u had any investigations done since your MC? I did some privately, and some via gp which helped a little for peace of mind. But also if this is your first cycle after MC remember they can be all over the place, i didnt ovulate until day 31 or so my first cycle after second MC!!! Hope youre doing ok xx

Hi ladies, I've spoken to some of you before on other threads but thought I'd add my experience here.

I'm in a similar boat as you, having my 5th chemical pregnancy in a row. Been ttc for 8 months, going into month 9 now. My basic GP tests were clear. I'm waiting for a fertility clinic appointment but think I'll be waiting some months for it.

I took baby aspirin last cycle and 150mg this cycle from ovulation but neither have really helped. I ovulated quite late this cycle so am trying soya isoflavones this cycle, apparently that's a natural version of clomid and it's helped others ovulate earlier and stronger, there's a lot of stories about it online and a few threads on Mumsnet. I did consider getting a private prescription for progesterone but because I've got a bicornuate uterus, I feel I should have that investigated further first before I spend money on progesterone as it could be more of an issue than I am told to believe at the moment.

There's such little research about chemicals as they happen so early, I still hope that it will happen soon for us but I can't deny that it's getting harder with each month and loss.

Slk3558 · 10/04/2021 22:42

Hi @choccrumpet, sorry to hear about your MCs. I’m not an expert by any means but for the little research I have done I have come across some info suggesting asprin might interfere with implantation (something to do making the blood lining not sticky enough for implantation I think), clotting issues can arise once the blood starts flowing after implantation between the growing placenta which is why asprin is seen to help in some women. So it could be an idea to take it only when you get your BFP. That’s what a lot of people do.

How long is your leutal phase and are you on any supplements?

Slk3558 · 10/04/2021 22:46

@Skattycatty123 I think it’s great that you did that and got to GP to pescribe it! I want to do the same just don’t know where to start. My GP seemed like it wasn’t any of their concern because they would just refer after 3 , before that they dont get involved at all... basically said to me they wouldn’t pescribe anything they would just refer to the women’s hospital for the recurrent miscarriage clinic ..but only after 3 !

Slk3558 · 10/04/2021 22:50

@Skattycatty123 it’s funny what you said about late ovulation after the second mc because after the first I ovulate pretty much normal day 17 and but after this second one ovulated on CD24 from the day I passed the tissue out..seems like my hormones were a bit off balance this month. I’m taking vitex this cycle to see if that can rebalance it a bit and hopefully encourage ovulation a bit earlier.
