What could be the cause for 5 recurrent misscarriges? At 5-6 weeks ?

I have had all the basic nhs testing done after referral to fertility clinic and nothing can be found to be wrong ! I am in my 20 so there is no chance all the babies had chromosome problems ! I have an underlying problem I am guessing but doctors can’t find it on nhs testing ! I am so frustrated ! I don’t have any children yet only 5 misscarriges back to back at 5-6 weeks every time ! Next time when I get pregnant I will medicate my self to baby aspirin to thin the blood because that’s all I can think of to help ! Maybe my blood clots when pregnant but not when I’m not pregnant ! Doctors haven’t given me any medication for next time I get pregnant so I am really stuck on my own !!!

I think sometimes there isn't an answer. I have a relative who had 6 losses before 2 healthy pregnancies. No explanation.

I'm so sorry, its heartbreaking. I had a miscarriage followed by years of infertility and it was the saddest time of my life.

I had 4, but do now have 2 children. I had 2 mc a dd, 2 mc a dd. Some of mine were later than 6 weeks.
I had aspirin, clexane injections and progesterone suppositories so these are things worth asking about. Also lots of early scans.
Some of the above was after the lab misdiagnosed me with a condition (APLS). But they were happy to keep giving after they realised the mistake.

worth getting thyroid checked. I had 5 miscs in a row at around 5 weeks. Thyroid issues were mentioned when I googled recurrent miscs,and I had sone symptoms of hyperthyroidism when I googled. Was tested at GP and diagnosed with graves disease. Went on to have a full term pregnancy and healthy baby soon after my levels were reduced with medication.

There is a chance all babies have chromosomal problems though , some people carry a gene that affects their babies but not yourself.. also the combination of you and your partners Genes could cause a genetic issue with the baby . Have you seen a geneticist ? Or have they don't any testing on the foetus's
Isn't there something that makes the body attack the foetus as well? Can't remember what it is but I think there is some sort of medication that can stop it happening .

I had recurrent miscarriages when I was 29/30, all at 6 weeks. Paid privately for testing and diagnosed with aggressive NK cells. Treated with prednisolone (a steroid) and progesterone and had 2 healthy babies.

I had 5. Discovered I had too many NK cells too. Was treated with steroids and took aspirin. Google Dr Quemby. You need a specialist recurrent miscarriage clinic. I now have two children. You have to shout and make a fuss. Good luck.

My SIL had 5 and all the tests, nothing wrong at all from what people could find.

She has also had two successful pregnancies, but one of them has a serious genetic heart problem. She believes that that 5 losses may have had something similar and that's why they didn't make it. It's nothing to do with age btw.

So there could be something like that? I'm really sorry though, it must be heartbreaking and frustrating to be in this situation.

Can you get a referral to a recurrent miscarriage clinic? Professor Regan runs an amazing one in London.

I had 4 when I was 26/27 and nothing was found on the nhs tests. I then had the Prof Quenby tests and still nothing was found but she and her team were amazing and still reassured us that it would happen one day. They put me on a programme of progesterone and clexane and I then had 2 dc following this with no further mc. Acupuncture was also a big help to me too.

Had 4 mcs - tests came back fine. Treated privately with preds, clexane and progesterone and had another 3 successful pregnancies. Not sure what my issue is as had issues with getting private tests done - timings etc but something in the meds worked for me. I also took doxycycline to rule out undiagnosed endometritis re a recent study and saw fertility dietician to try and sort out hormones and health etc (and managed to reverse some dodgey hormones before conceiving again). The fertility detective on Instagram is a really interesting woman with lots of research. Good luck xx

I had 4 pregnancy losses in a row. As @HarrietM87 and @Agirlcalled have also said, I was diagnosed with high levels of NK Cells. My NHS consultant recommended that I google Dr Quemby.

I paid to have the tests done and was recommended to take steroids and cyclogest in my next pregnancy. That pregnancy was text book and I have a beautiful son! Please please look in to NK cells and best of luck x

@Sadgirl28 - I’m so sorry. I experienced the same as you (4 miscarriages and an ectopic). I eventually saw Prof Regan at The Miscarriage Clinic, St Mary’s, Paddington. She diagnosed me with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (sticky blood) and I was treated with aspirin and injected clexane for my next pregnancy which was successful. Did the same a couple of years later and had another successful pregnancy. I would definitely recommend reading Prof Regan’s book on Miscarriage. Good luck OP.

I have had 4 losses - 1 very early / chemical and 3 MMCs where the babies stopped growing around 6 weeks but I miscarried at just over 9 each time.

All my nhs tests were normal (although I am on a low dose levothyroxine due to slightly raised thyroid). So we went private and I have been diagnosed with aggressive nk cells - basically my body is attacking the baby. My most recent baby was tested and he was chromosomally healthy. I'm following an immune protocol now, but not concieved yet.

Have you had blood karyotyping for your and your partner? We were tested after my last pregnancy and all was normal, but this can look for you or partner being carriers of particular genes or balanced translation. My recurrent miscarriage clinic did this tor us.

Have you been tested for Antiphospholipid syndrome / blood clotting issues? If you have and they are normal (mine were) then it is probably worth looking at further testing, but you'd have to probably do this privately. The nhs is quite limited in its testing. They just told us to keep going, but we didn't want to keep doing the sane thing, especially knowing I was miscarrying healthy babies.

Went for a private miscarriage consultation - CRGW in Wales. Consultant was happy to prescribe on the basis of current research hypothesis as I wasn’t tested for this. She said it would do no harm xx

OP best of luck to you, I can't really add to anything else said here other than a referral to a specialist recurrent miscarriage clinic, also ruling out celiac disease and vitamin d deficiency (not something that worked for me unfortunately but I have heard of others where it has helped)

A friend of mine had unexplained miscarriages at about the same time for 10 years. She has three girls now. After the first successful pregnancy she didn’t have anymore miscarriages.

We wasted time with a local recurrent miscarriage clinic and regret that decision very much.

@Needanewnamenow you can also just order the meds they prescribe for endometritis on line from an on line pharmacy . It’s called doxycycline. X

So sorry for your losses OP! Not sure if this has been explored but just a couple of things that came to mind and I haven't seen mentioned (sorry if I missed it!!)

-Natural Killer cells? Have a quick google to see how these could affect a pregnancy. I had this checked as part of endometrial biopsy.
-Sperm issues? Many miscarriages can now be linked to problem with sperm quality.

Sadly a family member has had multiple miscarriages very early on, but the one she managed to carry to 10 weeks could finally be tested and had chromosome issues. Obviously doesn't mean that all her miscarriages had been linked to that but it unfortunately can't be discounted.
