Hey,
I've had a horrendous week,I had a miscarriage on Tuesday at home.😭
Im having an ok day today.
I'm taking normal vitamins in the morning but should I carry on taking folic acid?

I'm so sorry to hear that @Leri. Remember to seek help if: 1) you have any intense pain 2) if bleeding doesnt stop after 3 weeks 3) if you dont test negative after 3 weeks 4) if you have any symptoms of infection (fever, shaky etc), 5) if you feel weak.or dizzy

If you are hoping to conceive again, then yes I would continue taking folic. I'm in this position - I had surgery for a missed miscarriage on monday and am taking folic as I would like to TTC again once my cycle is back to normal. If you dont want to TTC again then you dont need to take it

Hi Leri, so sorry to hear about your loss :( I've miscarried today at home also, its just horrible isn't it. I'm planning on taking pregnacare conception tablets again which have folic acid. I think if you're looking to try to conceive again at some point its good to take folic acid before you get pregnant x

Leri · 05/12/2020 18:55

@TheDaydreamBelievers Im so sorry for your lost,
What is TTC?

Lou98 · 05/12/2020 18:58

@Leri TTC means trying to conceive. If you want to try again then definitely keep taking the folic acid, same if you want to take a break but plan to again in the next few months.

So sorry for your loss 💐

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/12/2020 19:00

@Leri sorry for not being clear, TTC = trying to conceive. So if you want to get pregnant again, you should take folic.

Please note you are advised to wait until you finish miss carrying and until after your next period before you try again

@Ari4465
Im so sorry for your lost 😭. Horrendous I can't get the image out my head. Please rest and look after yourself.❤️

@TheDaydreamBelievers @Lou98
Thank you... I feel so lost in all this situation and don't know what to do for the best.

@Leri Thank you and you too x it's a horrible thing for anyone to go through.

I have the Pregnacare brand which I also got the his and hers so my partner could take some as well.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/12/2020 19:05

@Leri I just take boots own folic acid and vitamin D. The men's tablets have no evidence base - theres no proof they help conception or help the health of a resulting baby.

I'm really sorry to both you and @Ari4465. Unfortunately, our baby passed away towards the end of the 1st trimester, which is why I chose surgery. I cant imagine what it must be like to go through it at home.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/12/2020 19:08

My plan for what to do next (in case its helpful for anyone)

Right now:
Rest and relax
Eat well, sleep, some mild to moderate exercise
Keep taking folic acid and vitamin D
Check weekly to see if the pregnancy tests have gone negative

Once they do get negative:
Start cycle tracking again

After first period:
Try again

@TheDaydreamBelievers I don't know how you did it without anyone around you? I had to go to hospital and the time I really needed my partner he wasn't allowed. The Dr's was talking to me and I just couldn't reply or even listen to the information they were telling me. I've never felt so lonely 😭

I think you meant to comment to @Ari4465, @Leri?

I was in hospital and had surgical management. Our loss was discovered at 12 week scan and surgery scheduled for 1.5 weeks after that.

Leri · 05/12/2020 19:16

@TheDaydreamBelievers your amazing 💪.
I'm struggling to function about the moment, hardly eating as I'm not feeling hungry.

I understand that feeling, we had a miscarriage in March after trying for 18 months. I was devastated and felt so lost! It took another 6 months but I am currently 16 weeks pregnant so hang in there, it does get easier with time.

You can start trying straight away if you feel up to it, the waiting until after your period just makes it easier to date the pregnancy. Keep taking your folic acid and vitamin D and give yourself time to heal/grieve ❤️

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/12/2020 19:17

Ah sorry @Leri I didnt understand you at first. Do you mean being at hospital alone? It was hard, and super hard that i had to isolate from my husband for the weekend before (as they had covid tested me). Covid makes everything worse. But the medical staff were so kind and gentle with me. I didnt think I could do medical management. Our little one had died at 10+5 so I think miscarrying at home would have been horrendous. Surgery was the right call for me

Leri · 05/12/2020 19:22

@Lou98 a massive congratulations ☺️.

Ari4465 · 05/12/2020 21:00

@Lou98 huge congratulations! That's good to know that you can try straight away..since the day I found out I've just wanted to get it all done so we can try again. Focusing on something positive is the only thing that will take the edge off I think.

@TheDaydreamBelievers That sounds like a good plan. Fingers crossed we all get some good news in the next few months for those that are trying again.

Mishmased · 05/12/2020 21:17
