Hi,

2 weeks ago I suffered my 13th Miscarriage, I have had testing into what the problems are and it’s all to do with my Hormones and cervix.
I also have had a kidney Infection which has not cleared. I have been signed off by the GP for obvious reasons but on the sick note I asked them to put Kidney infection rather than pregnancy loss which they agreed to. Today I have been to see my manger and explained the situation with the miscarriage and my Kidneys and because I’m on probation they have ended my employment. Is this situation fair? I know that I’m on probation but I’ve been off for a genuine reason. Thanks Sad

Employers can get rid pretty easily within first two years
I am very sorry for your many miscarriages. Thinking of you Thanks

Sorry for your losses and the additional stress of an infection :(

Unfortunately, you are not very protected in the first 2 years of employment and absence can be a reason for dismissal even if it's for genuine reasons. If you could show that you were doing really well in performance reviews etc and had good attendance until now, it's possible they may be discriminating for the pregnancy, which is protected. But if the sicknote says kidney infection then it would be hard to prove. You could try speaking to ACAS for advice/guidance if you think they are discriminating because of the miscarriage.
