Can you have your period with hcg still in system?

Hi all,

Had a very slow decline in hcg levels since my miscarriage nearly 8 weeks ago, my last bloods on Sunday put the level at 126. However the past few days I had mild period cramps and today I am bleeding with much stronger cramps. Is it possible that it's my first period since the miscarriage?! Should I ring EPU tomorrow about this?

Hi! I know this is an old thread, but can you update? I’m in a similar situation now. Thanks!

Hi @Sarahmae06 I thought I would answer because I remember scrolling through numerous threads looking for advice when I was in this situation.
I had an ectopic pregnancy surgery in June, had bleeding about 3 weeks later which I thought was my period. I just didn't feel right and had ongoing hcg in my system.
I continued to on and off bleed until the level reached 0 which took from June till mid September.
I don't believe it's a 'true' period because there's still hcg there.

Sorry if that sounds a bit confusing but I hope it helps and I'm sorry for the loss you're going through
X

Hi!

I know this post is old, but could help others.
You can certainly get period and ovulate with HCG still in your system.
I ovulated 2 weeks ago with 11HCG in my system, and had my period on the 14/1 (2 weeks later) with 7HCG in my system.
I was 12 weeks pregnant and took me about 6 weeks to get my periods back.

Hey, I’m in a similar situation. My period came yesterday (super heavy!!) 6 weeks post surgery but I am still getting a very faint positive when I did a HPT!?
@Laurashakey did you find your first period was a lot heavier than usual?
Thanks x

Hi,

If I’m honest I’m not too sure, I haven’t really had a proper period as I’ve always been on pills, I come off pills and I caught the first cycle!
I had spotting the first day with a bit of period cramps then two days of quite heavy bleeds then was just brown discharge and then I had bleeding again which was quite heavy with a few clots coming out. Assuming my womb got rid of what was left. Then medium spotting for for about 3 days and that was it. I am about to ovulate now in about 3 days so counting my luck now🤞🏽X

Sounds like what I’m going through! I had 1 day of spotting and now on my 2nd day of heavy bleeds and small clots so fingers crossed it dies down soon and I get a negative test once it’s finished!
Oh good luck! Fingers crossed we will be trying again next month so keep me updated :)
How far along was you with your precious pregnancy? @Laurashakey

Laurashakey · 26/01/2021 06:52

I hope you will! I haven’t taken pregnancy test since during my period, but I am hoping it is now negative! Good luck to you too! I will keep you updated, this app called ovia is very good to track your ovulation. I’m still unsure when exactly I will ovulate but my cycle ave always been 28 days so I’m just going by that. Test every day and the line seems to be getting darker each day. I was 12 weeks in. Threatened miscarriage, the baby was still alive while I was miscarrying. So sad. How about you?x

Hi. Can anyone help me. I had a miscarriage on 26/01/21. Treated with medication. 6 weeks later. I still had a slight positive preg test. They scanned me, and there's a slight bit of tissue stuck around my c section scar. I had a second dose of tablets which didn't work. I still have the positive pregnancy test. I just want my body to go back to normal and my periods come back. I'm really getting down and it's taking over my life at the moment. Has anyone had a similar experience x
