empty pregnancy sac/gestational sac at 12 weeks scan

Went in for my scan this afternoon thinking I was 13w2d. Had a bit of light spotting in past week but no pain and only on wiping, with colour gradually darkening each day it appeared. But was told at scan that pregnancy sac looked empty about the size that would have been expected at 8/9 weeks but with no yolk sac or embryo.

Now I'm waiting for the result of some blood tests to figure out why this might have happened. Seems like there are three possibilities with varying degree of severity: missed miscarriage from blighted ovum; ectopic pregnancy; molar pregnancy. Hoping we can get back onto baby-making asap as I'm 39 next week :(

Don't feel disheartened. Take each day as it comes and get back to trying once you have recovered and feel up to it. Lots of love.

So sorry to hear that. It is absolutely devastating. This happened to us last pregnancy and we found out at the scan. Heartbreaking. I was told it was a blighted ovum.
I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant (aged 44). It took nearly a year to get here, bit it did happen.
Take care of yourself and I hope you get the answers you need.
