Medical management of MC...working or not?

Two weeks ago I was having some spotting and a pain in my left side so I booked myself in for a scan at the EPAU. I was exactly 7 weeks pregnant on the day of the scan but the scan was measuring only 5 weeks, no embryo or heartbeat could be seen. The gestational sac was also very low in the uterus which is unusual. I was advised that it was possible I was losing the baby. I then went home and grieved the loss of my baby as I knew it was over.

I went back in for another scan a week later and there had been literally no change so they confirmed I was having a miscarriage, although by this point my bleeding had gone down a lot (although it was never very heavy to start with).

Yesterday I went into the EPAU to have medical management. At 11 I was given 4 tablets under my tongue for 10 minutes which i then had to swallow. Whilst in the hospital 20 minutes later i had some diarrhoea (TMI) and some slight cramps so was worried i wasn't going to be able to get home. I was discharged 30 minutes after taking the tablets and made it home. For the rest of the day i had some very slight bleeding and literally no pain.

This morning i woke up and went to the loo, wiped and there was what I can only imagine was the gestational sac on the tissue (based on comparing with pictures online). Since this I have had no bleeding, no pain and no 'gushing' of blood as I was expecting from reading other people's experiences.

So I guess what I am asking is should I expect more pain and bleeding even though it seems I have past the sac? I just feel like the medical managment hasn't worked as by now I was expecting more pain and a lot more blood.

Hi. Sorry for your loss. I can't offer you much advice as i didn't go for medical management myself. But as far as I know you do bleed a little. Maybe it's over for you. Could you arrange for a scan in a week so that they can confirm?

Hi, among many hideous experiences of pregnancy losses I’ve had, when I had a managed miscarriage I had very little bleeding once I passed the sac (I haven’t looked up online images but I would have been about 6-7 weeks, managed at 9 weeks) and no further cramps or pain. The sac was about the size of a little finger (if that’s not TMI)

Thanks ladies, I'm sorry for your losses.
I will be calling EPAU on Monday and telling them how I've been and hopefully they will be able to advise me further or get me in for a scan if needed.
I wonder if the lining is still needing to come out or whether this had been past throughout the week when I have had my period like bleeding with very small clots?
I have had no further bleeding but my stomach muscles do feel quite sore and achey to touch (could be something could be nothing).

Hi , LittleGem638 I’m so sorry to read what you’ve been through. I know you probably don’t want to think about it, but was that the end of it for you? I’m so worried it hasn’t worked for me. I had a scan last week and was 6+3, measuring correctly and lovely heartbeat. I began bleeding and cramping on and off over the weekend and sadly a scan on Tuesday showed no heartbeat. I opted for medical management and had the four tablets inserted today at 11am. I had pains and bleeding, dark and stringy but not necessarily clots, when I went to the toilet until about 4 but since then nothing. I am desperate for this ordeal to be over. I’m heartbroken and feel like it is just dragging out with no end in sight. I called the ward and they said it can take 48 hours but everything I’ve read suggests it acts quicker than this. I just know I haven’t bled enough or passed anything sac like.

Hi Yellow27, sorry for what you are going through, it is literally the hardest thing ever :(
It was the end for me, the clot I thought was the gestational sac was after I did more research and that was the end of the bleeding. I did a pregnancy test a week later and it came back negative so I was discharged from EPAU as everything was over.
Hope this helps and hope that everything is over for you, things were a bit different for me as there was never a fetal pole so not sure if more pain or bleeding would be expected.
Sit tight and look after yourself x
