Hello, this is my first post. I'm very nervous and looking for some support. Me and my partner are looking to start trying for baby number 2. However, my mum, my aunties, my friends, have all suffered a miscarriage with their 2nd child and I am petrified that this will be my fate too. I seem to think its inevitable at this point because I cant think of one person I know who hasnt miscarried their 2nd child. Its heartbreaking and scaring me so much. Any advice?

A miscarriage can happen to anyone at anytime regardless of how many pregnancies you’ve had before. Every pregnancy carries a risk of miscarriage and you are no more likely to have a miscarriage just because it’s your second child/pregnancy than if it had been your first. I come from a huge family of women who have all had multiple pregnancies without any miscarriages. Yet I have recently suffered a miscarriage on my first ever pregnancy. My point is that unfortunately there is no magic way to avoid a miscarriage although I’m sure many women on this site wish there was! All you can do is go into it with a positive attitude, look after yourself and hope for the best. If you desperately want another child then this is just a risk you are going to have to take and as someone who has just started trying again for their rainbow baby I think it’s worth the risk!
