Found out our little boy had no heartbeat on Mon, born on Wed. Yesterday I started leaking milk and boobs are solid and one in particular is v v painful. Any tips to help this? Finding it so distressing that I have milk but no baby. Thank you.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Are you still in hospital? Can a midwife advise?

PurpleViolins · 10/11/2019 23:21

Thank you. No, came home on Fri.

So sorry for your loss. You could try hand express a little for comfort to avoid getting blockages or mastitis. If you aren't on any other interacting medication, decongestants (Sudafed tablets) can help dry up milk supply. Cool cabbage leaves in the bra too. If you feel unwell, weak, shivery, etc. then seek help right away.

Oh and Ibuprofen helps too x

You may need to see a GP If you have any pain or redness in your breast as it can lead to mastitis which develops quickly and can make you very poorly. Would absolutely avoid expressing any milk, as that would only encourage your body to produce more. A doctor could also help give you a prescription to help dry up your milk in some circumstances. So sorry for what you’re going through Flowers

I’m so sorry for your loss, this happened to me too after losing my son at 23 weeks. It’s such a cruel and distressing reminder. My midwife or GP (I can’t remember exactly as it’s all a bit of blur) gave me something to dry the milk up. Please contact them, it was such a shock for me as I didn’t expect it to happen. I wish I had been warned it would happen and maybe given something to stop it before it started.

I hope you can get it sorted out quickly. Flowers

Sorry for your loss ☹️ The same thing happened to me and it felt like another slap in the face, it didn’t last long. Hopefully yours won’t either. It’s just another hurdle you get through. Do you have much support OP?

PurpleViolins · 11/11/2019 13:22

@Celebelly thank you will try and get them.

@Radleygirl and @Jellybean100 thanks I've phoned and waiting a call back out possible medication.

@Chocolateandchats sorry this has happened to you too x.

Partner has decided to go back to work today so now properly alone for longest period of time. Very unsure what to do with myself. Physically am still sore/bleeding/v hormonal but sitting/resting isn't helpful emotionally. Been through similar many years ago and the memories from that are being brought up again. Utterly devastated, really thought this one was meant to be. Had a warm shower this morning and milk was pouring out.
