Trying again after early MC / “chemical pregnancy”

I’ve been TTC for about five months following a stillbirth earlier this year. Following a couple of positive tests last week I had some mild cramping then some spotting and now seem to have a full on heavy af since yesterday. I would be about 4.5 weeks...

GP said it was ok to start trying again once I get a negative test. I probably shouldn’t google too much but I have and have read mixed things like wait for at least one period and also don’t have sex for at least 2 weeks after to avoid risk of infection.

I just wondered if anyone else has been in this position and what advice and experiences have you had?

I didn't feel like sex or trying for a while myself but my understanding is that it's fine to start trying straight away and I'm not aware of any concerns. I'm sure I've read there is a greater chance of conceiving.

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you've had a difficult time.

Thanks for replying @Doyoumind

I think after our full term loss it took some time to even think about going there. Then I had given birth etc too so was a bit different.

This time I suppose I will see how I feel and if we feel like trying this month then it sounds like that should be ok. I suppose it depends on bleeding etc too as this only stated a couple of days ago. I’m expecting it to just be like af basically but I don’t know.

I have read there is a greater chance of conceiving

Hi @ReeReeR,

So sorry for your loss.

I had a mmc at 9.5 weeks after going for an early scan (baby stopped developing at 6 weeks). I'm over two weeks now after I had the tablets to bring on the miscarriage and I've been told to test at three weeks after and as long as the test is negative and my bleeding has stopped we can try again. Three diff. Healthcare staff have told me there's no need to wait for the first 'normal' period so we aren't going to. Hope this helps and you get some positive news soon. Xx

Thanks @aeastley93 Sorry for your loss too. It must be so disheartening to get to nearly 10 weeks and then learn you’ve lost your baby. Thanks for letting me know what you’ve been told. Interesting you have not been told to wait either even though you are a bit further along. Apparently we are fertile after mc though! xx

I'm so sorry for what you're going through, we unfortunately miscarried this week, the hospital have told us as soon as the bleeding stops from the miscarriage we can start trying again, we googled everything and got ourselves into a state because we read so many different things. So we are going by what the hospital have said. I wish you all the best x

@ReeReeR so sorry for what you are going through. I had a mc last month at 7 weeks. I had to go back to the hospital numerous times until my hcg blood test level dropped below 5 which then wouldn't show positive on a hpt. A couple of the nurses I saw during the time advised me to wait until I'd had a period but just because it's easier to then date a pregnancy if it happens. I also read online about waiting 2 weeks because of infection. We waited 2 weeks anyway because this is how long I bled for (sorry if tmi) then started trying again without waiting for my first period. I have however come on my period today 4 weeks after mc. I feel very emotional about it but at the same time I guess I'm happy that everything is seemingly working 'normally' again. I would say do what feels best for you but the 2 week wait so as not to get an infection sounds a sensible suggestion to me x

I’m sorry you are experiencing something similar @Chloep98 I am minded to go with what the gp has said too

@mrslaurenbrown I’m sorry you suffered a mc at 7 weeks. I don’t think there is such thing as tmi when it comes to concepion and pregnancy or so it seems on MN! My bleeding has pretty much stopped already. I had one day of spotting on Tuesday then the next day was like heavy af which got lighter to almost nothing yesterday.

The gp basically said I could easily not have known I was pregnant as it was so early and so should treat it like a normal late period.

My only hesitance to wait 2 weeks is then I’d probably miss my fertile window this month but that’s assuming this really is just like the start of a normal cycle.

On the other hand I don’t want to cause any problems.

I use OPKs so would be able to date from that. I’ll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks 😬 x
