Hi All, we lost our first baby sometime in the 9th week. A medium amount of spotting (and a huge amount of anxiety) led me to the EPU for the second time, but this time we were given the bad news that our baby's heart had stopped beating. Only a few weeks earlier after some lighter spotting, we had seen our baby's tiny heartbeat on the scan. Having had very few symptoms of miscarriage (the medium spotting actually stopped shortly after we had been given the bad news), the doctors recommended Surgical Management of Miscarriage to hurry things along, which I had carried out two days later.

Almost a week later I'm thinking about trying again. I've read conflicting information about whether the advice to wait for a natural period is purely for dating purposes, or whether thinner lining and retained tissue can be harmful to a new baby.

There are a lot of success stories on here of conception immediately after m/c, but few from people who had surgical management. I'm particularly worried about thinner lining as I assume the surgery will have had an unnaturally harsh effect in that sense. Also, as my body hadn't naturally miscarried I'm worried that any tissue that was left behind by the surgery won't be expelled naturally until I have a period.

If anyone has conceived immediately after SMM, please let me know how it went. I know the sensible thing to do is to wait but understandably, I don't really want to.

Thank you all x
