Please can you tell me if you need a follow-up ultrasound

Hello,
I have just miscarried while abroad at 8 weeks 5 days. I had an ultrasound confirming the baby and placenta are gone but there was a lot of blood (endometrium 24mm).
I was told to come back for another scan as that is what they do here, but I would really rather not as it is upsetting seeing the empty scan.
I was just wondering what they do in the UK. They don't scan there, do they? I got the impression we are just told to take a pregnancy test after a few weeks as long as the bleeding is slowing down and no symptoms of infection.

PS. I had medical management if that makes any difference.

So sorry for your loss just.

I've had medical management for all of my miscarriages. Each time I was told to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks later and as long as it was negative then all was complete. If it came back positive then to ring EPU for a follow up scan.

I hope that helps.

That is a big help, thank you. I really don't want another scan if it's not necessary, so if that's the way it's done back home, then fine by me!

Can I ask how long people bleed after medical management? I am on day 6 and I would say it is medium now (about 5-6 pads per day, not filling them completely, hardly any clots) Is that normal?

On average I bleed for about 10-14 days in total. It usually wasn't too heavy for the second week and generally the clots were just for the first couple of days and then maybe just the odd one here or there later on.

Hi ladies, thank you for this, I'm in the same boat and feeling a bit lost. I didn't know about the preg test so I'll do that x

I had a medical management miscarriage at 13-14 weeks.

It will be 3 weeks this weekend and if the test isn't negative I have to be scanned.

My bleeding has been next to nothing. Basically only when I wipe. So I'm worried something in there is 'stuck'.
And we're supposed to be going on holiday next week. Yay. Hmm

At my Early Pregnancy Unit they always have you back for a scan to make sure everything has passed and the miscarriage is complete.
