Is this an early miscarriage or is there still hope?

I was 6+2 weeks yesterday but when I woke in the morning I had cramp type pains then when I went to the toilet there was pink/brown blood and a few small clots about the size of grains of rice. The cramps continued for next couple of hours then when I went to the toilet there was some bright red blood.

I suspected the worst so I put a pad on and have been wearing them for the last 24 hours but there has been almost nothing on them, although there was still bright red blood when I wiped whenever I went to the toilet.

At lunchtime today, about 26 hours after the original pink/brown blood, I went to the toilet and there was no blood when I wiped, but there seemed to be something looking small crumbs and a tiny bit of pink in the end of my urine.

I went to the out of hours service earlier today because doc isn't open at the weekend, they checked me over but said they couldn't really tell me anything. Said it was too early for a scan so I should wait a few days then contact the early pregnancy unit to see what's going on. She also said to carry on as if I was still pregnant but also gave me a big talk about how common miscarriages are at 6 weeks and how there was nothing that could be done.

I'm now really confused, it didn't seem like nearly enough blood for a miscarriage, not even a light period, but my breasts which have been super sensitive for last few weeks are no longer sore.

Sorry for such a long post, I'm just really looking for an opinion since the doc couldn't tell me anything. Do you think it was a miscarriage or is there still hope?

I am sorry you are going through this. I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks and continued to 'feel' pregnant for quite some time even after having the surgery to remove anything left behind by the natural process. My next pregnancy at 6, 8, 13 , 15,18, 22 ,26,32,34 weeks I bled and had cramps but delivered a baby at 36 weeks!

I think you can never be certain until the doctor or a pregnancy test tells you it's over. Hugs

KittyandTeal · 02/08/2015 18:03

I'd say that was 'just' a small bleed. For a mc at 6 weeks it would be like a very heavy and painful period. So I'd say it's not a mc. I'm not expert though.

Kikimoon · 02/08/2015 18:11

I'd say you cannot know until you have a scan (have had 4mcs and 2 dc). So yes there absolutely is hope especially if the bleeding has stopped for now. But what I would do is go to bed and rest (general medical advice is that you don't need to, but I think it's important). Good luck

Thanks to you all for your replies, it's going to talk to people who understand what I'm going through. I'm feeling a bit calmer now and am just resting up on the sofa watching tv. Guess I'll call the EPU tomorrow and try to get booked in. Trying to stay positive but also trying to not get my hopes up too much just in case. Fingers crossed, and thanks again, I really appreciate your replies :)

I had a very big and heavy bleed at 6 weeks. Assumed it was a miscarriage but I had a scan 2 weeks later because I was throwing up and sleeping lots. The bean is still hanging in there. On the other hand i had every pregnancy symptom going in my last pregnancy at 12 weeks but a missed miscarriage, it had stopped developing at 3/4 weeks.
The uncertainty and anxiety is horrible but there is still hope.
I've had more bleeds and decided that until I can feel kicking I'll never believe this one is still there.

islandgirl99 · 03/08/2015 15:55

Well, I called the EPU this morning and they got me to come in for a scan and sadly it's confirmed the worst. I've had a full miscarriage. They said that your body only bleeds as much as it has to, and because I was so early it must just not have needed much.

I kinda knew myself before I went, so although I'm still really sad, it's a relief to finally know for certain after 48 hours of overthinking and crying.

I still have to go back on Wednesday to give another blood sample just so they can check that my hormone levels are going back down as this will confirm that I'm not having an ectopic pregnancy but in reality we all know that's not what's going on, they just need to do the check anyway.

The good news is that they said nothing's actually wrong, it was just my body recognising that something wasn't quite right and ending it, and they said we can start trying again straight away whenever we want, we don't even need to wait for my next period if we don't want to.

Thanks to all of you for replying, your words and support were a huge help at a time when I was driving myself crazy.

Good luck to you all, hope your experiences lead to a happy ending.

Hi ..i dai 3 home pregnancy tests that came up with really faint lines i would of been 3/4 weeks pregnant at this point .then a few days later i had some brown spotting then the next day bright red blood and passed what i can only assume to be the sac ...i had some bleeding for two days after that and now nothing ...im unsure if ive miscarried or am i having an ectopic pregnancy..has anyone else been through this....????????

islandgirl99 · 07/08/2015 14:08

Hi kiki, sadly it sounds to me like a miscarriage, but i think you'd need to go and get your hcg levels checked to be sure.

I'm currently having my hcg levels tracked to confirm that I'm miscarrying and am not having an ectopic pregnancy, so I've been giving blood samples every couple of days. It was 110 on Monday for my first test following some very light spotting/bleeding at the weekend, and I was told this was far too low for me being 6 weeks which meant the pregnancy wasn't viable anyway. The low hcg level was why the lines on my hpts hadn't been getting darker. It fell to 75 on Wednesday and was 62 today, so I've to go back on Monday for my next test as they need to see a significant drop to rule out ectopic, but all signs are pointing to miscarriage as there was nothing to be seen on my scan and the hcg levels are falling, albeit very slowly.

Hope you're doing ok and taking care of yourself, this is a horrible thing to have to go through xx

I had a miscarriage about 2/3 weeks ago. I had and ultrasound where they seen a sack. I then started bleeding and lost the sack. I then went for a bloodtest and my hcgs ha dropped from 3300 to around 500. I had a ultrasound after that and it shown everything was back to normal everything had vanished and i was ovulating. My hcgs were around 200-300 at thid point. I got told to take a test 2 weeks after my scan so i did. I got a positive result so i went back for a blood test and my hcg levels came back to about 500 again. 2days later they are now 200-300 again. I have to go back for more bloodtests but im really confused as to whats going on??? Why do they keep rising thendropping then rising again after they told me everything had come away???

yuG97 Sorry that happened to you. I had something similar with my last mc. My levels kept bobbing up and down and EPU were getting a little worried about it being ectopic (they kept being about 150-200, then went lower and higher again). They started to consider giving me tablets to flush any remaining products out, but I was going on holiday, so they just advised me to keep an eye on it and come back, if needed. It wasn't. Took the additional two weeks (and quite a bit of alcohol, thanks to two weddings), but it sorted itself out eventually. I guess the body just goes at its own pace. Similar to islandgirl99, I had hardly any bleeding and also no pain whatsoever.

I'm currently being assessed for another possible mc, which seems a little different (no spotting, but quite a bit of cramping). I'm 6+3 at the moment,...or I should be. My levels are much higher this time (1700), although still very low for how far along I am. I have to go back later this week to get some answers. They've seen a sack, but nothing else, yet. The consultant seems to think it might still be viable, but I'm a little less optimistic. Sad

yuG97 · 26/08/2015 23:43

Minispringroll so sorry to hear that. Must be hard. I cant see anythig remaining as i had an internal and they said eerything gas gone back to normal and measures normal. I was just ovulating. Two weeks later and my hormones had gone up to 500 then back down to 300 im just so confused

islandgirl99 · 28/08/2015 11:25

yuG97, really sorry to hear that you're going through this, I don't think anyone can understand the frustration & confusion unless you've gone through it.

I'm also confused about being told you were ovulating when your hcg levels were still ~500, I was told at the EPU that hcg suppresses ovulation and that it needed to be below 5 before ovulation would happen, because above 5 your body still thinks it's pregnant. I've done a few google searches on this too as we were so keen to start ttc again and they say the same thing but I guess you can find proof of anything on the internet.

I was also told that having AF would bring the hcg levels down.

I'm not sure if you're interested, but I also read online that taking vitamin C can help bring on AF as it prepares your body to shed the uterine lining, you have to take quite a high dose though. I tried it as I was desperate and 5 days after I started I had a bleed and when I got my hcg levels checked the next day they were down below 5. Not sure if it was related or if AF would have come anyway, but it made me feel a bit better to think that there was something I could do to help it along. If you want more info on the vitamin C thing let me know.

Good luck anyway, I'm thinking of you

Minispringroll - I have my fingers crossed for you and hope you get good news when you go back
